Preview seems to have introduced a feature where the default format in the save dialog is the same format as the last saved file.

This is can be very annoying -e.g., if I previously saved an image and then try to save a pdf, only the first page of my pdf is saved (if I forget to change the format back to pdf).

Does anyone know how to disable this feature?

Thanks very much!

In Ventura? I don’t see that behavior in Monterey 12.6.5 (21G531) Preview 11.0 (1033.4)
Read Preview's preference file from Terminal to identify any potential setting for this feature:
Code:
defaults read com.apple.Preview

I see that behaviour on my Big Sur 11.7.6 (iMac 27")

And ... I do not quite understand the output from that suggested 'read'.
;JOOP!

Thanks very much for the replies.

I am actually using Bug Sur - perhaps I should try updating.

I took a look at the preference file. It holds the last selected file type (com.apple.imagekit.lastselectedfiletype = xxx), but I can't see an option to disable this.
