In Big Sur, there was a way to stop this from happening. You only needed to take a screenshot so that it popped up in the bottom right corner, click on it and then you could access preferences from there. This option has gone. I use screenshots quite often and find it a pain having to wait after each screenshot before it appears on my desktop.
Is there a way to change this?

Application > Utilities > Screenshot. Open this app, choose Options and turn off Show Floating Thumbnail.
