How to stream - can't get it to work?

i've succesfully paired my apple tv with my macbook, but how can I stream movies from the macbook to the appleTV instead of putting all my movies ON the appletv itself?

First off, I'd be sure to update the Apple TV software. No reason not to. Also, make sure you uncheck the option on the Apple TV settings in iTunes to only show synced content. Then you should be good to go.

This should be your solution. I don't stream any longer myself, but when I did and faced the same issues you did, this was the culprit.

Oddly, ATV software updates have been great (knock on formica) and problem free. Unlike other software updates to devices that shall not be named.
