I have an Apple TV 3 (3rd gen) and found someone that is willing to trade his second gen for my third, even trade. I am all about this, being that I can jailbreak it and get XBMC running. I did a bit of searching but couldn't find my answer; how do I confirm that it is a second gen? He wanted to meet shortly after I get off of work, so I wanted to have an answer for him.

Apologies if this answer is in a thread I couldn't find.

Turn it over and look on the bottom there is a load of writing that is extremly hard to read, middle of the top line should be a model number:-

ATV2:- Order Number = MC572LL/A Model Number = A1378
ATV3:- Order Number = MD199LL/A Model Number = A1427 - Check your ATV3 to see that it's right.

Like I said the writings very hard to see as it's glossy black etched into the matt finish of the bottom, you have to turn it just right into the light to read it.

I guess my question is why are you concerned? Think about it, he isn't going to trade an. Appletv3 for another 3 and it should be fairly obvious if he brings an appletv1!
