It seems to me a silly question but I can't find an answer even if I kind of remember there was a way...

The question is: is there any software way to identify which drive is installed in which bay?

Maybe it's very obvious but I don't see it.

You can see this info in Disk Utility.

Answer to myself and to who might be interested:

System Information - SATA/SATA Express: the list will show top to bottom, first the optical bays, then the disk ones

Oh I found it...it's a bit hidden but yes, you have to click the info button after selecting the device. Sorry :)
