I searched and didn't see how to do it. I had it set up for tethering with 3.0 I think, but then upgraded and it wiped it out.

How do I get to do that again?

You can't. Only 3.0.0 or 3.0.1

Is it just a matter of time until someone will come up with those modified carrier files? Or does the update make it impossible to do that?

If the 2nd is true, is there any way to downgrade back to 3.0?

I've just gotten an iPhone this week. I followed all the steps to activate tethering, then found out, from this post, that apple's 3.1 software wiped out the tethering option.
I too am very interested in either getting it to work with 3.1 or downgrading.
I still can't figure out WHY they are so against iPhone tethering, when they have other phones that do.

Why dont you guys just jailbreak and use PDANet or MyWi??? Jailbreaking with the new tools is simple, and you can always restore to factory if you need to bring it in for service. Way easier then waiting for someone else do figure out a tethering hack via a non jailbreak.

It's simple really. AT&T wants to start charging for tethering when they offer it in the future. They don't want people using it for free.

I'm on 3.0.1 JB...waiting to do the new JB for 3.1.2 until I know I can tether with MyWi or PDANet. I've seen reports that MyWi does not but haven't heard anything about PDANet. Can anyone confirm?

Tethering is a must for me.

Used PDANet last night at Starbucks, works fine for me. Just used it this morning too on the drive to work to tether to my laptop to do some work while in traffic

FYI - MyWi (available in Cydia or Rock - a Rock app) enabled native tethering on 3.1.2. It also has WiFi "tethering" (not there may be a conflict with the WiFi part and 3G unrestrictor.) (App Author :) )
