I've been reading how to articles and it seems like it should be working but I can't send/receive SMS messages through the Messages app on my Mac Mini.

What I read on the Apple site -

Text anyone from your Mac.
Send unlimited iMessages to anyone with a Mac or iOS device. And if you have an iPhone, you can now send and receive SMS text messages from your Mac, so all your friends can be part of the conversation.

I can message anyone on my iPhone and iPad but I can't get it to carry over to my Mac Mini. When I type in a friend's name that doesn't have an Apple product, it comes up in red then I get a message that says the message could not be sent and his number is not registered with iMessage.

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Just need to do this -

To use Continuity for SMS and MMS on your iPad, iPod touch, and Mac:

Update your iPhone to iOS 8.1 (when available).
Enable iMessage on your Mac and iOS devices.
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages and turn on Text Message Forwarding.
Your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac will display a code you can enter on your iPhone to verify the SMS and MMS feature.

It was selected for my iPad but not the Mac Mini.

Thank you! Much appreciated! :)
