I have just got a new iPod touch (2nd generation, 32 GB) and am trying to figure out how to transfer the contacts information from my old Palm Tungsten T/x. Can anyone help?

I have my Palm synced to my iCal, Address Book and so forth, so the iPod touch should get the info.

Mac has an application called iSync that should work with your Palm Tungsten according to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1374. This will automatically place information into the appropriate applications for you to sync over to the iPod touch. If you're using Windows, you'll need to use Palm Desktop to transfer information onto the computer to use with the iTunes syncing.
Thanks to both you and TracyS' advice! I have managed to transfer using the palm desktop (my notebook is an IBM by the way not a Mac). First, I export each contact in VCard format into Outlook. And in Outlook Contact, I import the VCard files. I had to do the above steps for each contact so it took a while. Don't know how to do it enbloc.

i think those two explained it
in hotsync there is an option to export all contacts as vcard(or a couple other types). then i imported them into addressbook, and from there synced with itunes to my nano

In Hotsync, I do not find any options to export. In palm desktop, there is an option under File, Export where the entire address book can be exported but it is only under different formats including csv, but not vcard - how did you do this or any other suggestions? I have a Windows based PC using XP.

I just received an iTouch 4 for Christmas. I'm upgrading from a Palm TX that was getting rather sad. I have a MacBook Pro with system 10.5. I exported my 370 Palm Contacts as a vCard file. I imported the vCards into my MAC's Address Book and it synced perfectly with the iTouch. It took just seconds. I'm VERY happy.
Good to hear that the conversion process is making people genearlly happy in their move to the iTouch.
I did a similar maneuver a few years back to move my information from a Palm IIIC to an iPod Video. The iTouch is way cooler, cause you've got Apps like you did with the Palm!

Newbie: How can I transfer all data from Palm T3 to Ipod Touch?

I'm a newbie computer user. I've had a T3 & have used it mainly for organization. I have probably 1300 contacts & 800 memo's & 800 notes. I've used Palm desktop to sync it. I also use an sd card to backup all my data. Is there any way to move all my data to an IPod Touch keeping in mind that I'm technically challenged? I'm not interested in using it to get on the web.
Anyone have any ideas if that is possible?

Palm to iPod Touch
I recently went through what you are now facing. After having Palm products since 1996, I had a mountain of information to transfer. Some of the exact details that I followed I no longer remember but I am sorry to have to say that it was not easy.
If you are able to use Palm Desktop 6, you will have a much easier time with the transfer. My Palm Zire 72 can use only Palm Desktop 4 so I had to jump through more hoops.
For contacts, I had to export the information as a .csv file (Comma Separated Values) and then import it into Microsoft Outlook. Once there, I was able to sync the contacts to my new iPod. I tried to use the .vcf file format supported by Palm Desktop but Outlook will read only the first of all of my contacts. All of the data is there but there is some problem, perhaps related to my inability to use Palm Desktop 6.
For calendars, because my calendar data went back to 1996, I had to export the information as a .csv file and then break up the file into a set of sub-files no larger than 500KB or something like that. Then I imported the files into another calendar program (it may have been Google Calendar), which I could then sync to iTunes and so into the iPod.
For notes, I chose to use a commercial program, Notespark, which syncs to a web site that stores your notes. You can access the web site from your computer at home or on the road and make your own backup copies. New notes can be transferred to the iPod by simply cutting and pasting text from your computer into the Notespark web site and then doing a sync to the Notespark program on your iPod. Some people have concerns about sharing potentially sensitive information with a web host but I have had no problems.
All of the above is a lot of work. For Mac users it appears (no surprise) to be a lot easier. Good luck.
