My 14 pro is on 16.0.1, which has not been released for the 13s. If I wanted to put data back on my 13 mini, what would I do?

I read something about putting 16.1 beta on both devices, but I have no clue how to do that, or how that would work.

What would I do, or does anyone have any idea when 16.0.1 will be out for the 13s?

It appears there will be an update for iOS 16 next week. Update both devices so they are on the new version and you should be able to transfer

But how can you update/transfer data if one device is erased? Will it just ask about updating as it’s going through the process of transferring? I’ve never come upon this situation.

I’m not even sure I’ll need to do it, but want to know how to do it just in case.

On your 13, just go through the setup and don’t sign in to iCloud or transfer any data. Then when it’s setup and the update is released, update that phone to the new version

Update your 14 to the new version. Then erase the 13 and start the setup on the 13 and transfer the data from the 14

If I’m gonna erase the 13, why would I ever need to update it to begin with? Wouldn’t erasing it erase anything I updated? Sorry if that’s a stupid question.

The premise of your question was how to get data back on your 13.

you need to get both phones on the same version of iOS. The setup, update, and erase on the 13 gets that phone on the newest version of iOS and it’s now ready to be setup as new. Erasing does not erase IOS so the phone stays updated to the newest version

Then you update the 14 to the newest version of iOS. Now both phones are on the same version of iOS

Now, if you do want to move back to your 13, you can start the setup on the 13 and migrate the data from your 14 to the 13

Also I am assuming that you have erased the 13 and it doesn’t have any data on it that you want to keep (hence your questions about putting data back on it)

Ok that makes sense. I didn't think about the fact that it wouldn't delete the updates.
