In the old days doing this was really easy but these days apple so badly wants me to subscribe to their music service and I really do not need a music service. I do buy music from the iTunes store on occasion however. Okay I downloaded a CD that I own to the apple music library and have a playlist and can play from the Mac. How can I download this to my iPhone? Thanks..

Connect(sync) your iPhone to your Mac. The iPhone should appear in the Sidebar of a Finder window. Click on it to open the iPhone window. Click on the music tab and select "Sync Music".

You can choose to sync all the music on your Mac, or individual tracks, albums or playlists.

With a USB cable?

Since you've downloaded the CD into your Music app on your Mac, when you sync your iPhone you have the option of downloading your entire Music library or you can make selections based upon the album name, artist or genre.

I need to plug into via USB which I do not do very often. But I should do it soon.
