i searched articles but i cannot find how i can download my own music from apple music app on my m1 mac running big sur to my iphone?

i dont want to use icloud music sync, i hate it, i just want to transfer my own files to my phone like you use to be able to with itunes.

when i plug my phone up, i don't see an option to view it as a drive to drag and drop files from apple music into.

did they stop allowing this or is it a hidden feature?

With Apple Music, songs sync over iCloud. It makes no sense to refer to “my music”. They are just Apple Music tracks that you added to your library.

If you have songs in your library that aren’t Apple Music tracks, then the instructions in the linked Apple Support article apply.

I don't think it's ever possible to copy back your MP3 files from an iPhone to a PC via drag-n-drop. That was only possible on iPod (except iPod Touch). You have to use 3rd party software.

Before you get upset, this is not new. It's been like this since the original iPhone, I believe. It's one reason I never used an iPhone until I'm on the streaming bandwagon. Also, if it's your own personal music, you should've had the MP3 files originally on your PC/Mac in iTunes/Music app where you transferred the music to your iPhone.

Yes, it shows up in finder and gives you the same view that you are used to from iTunes. This had me confused at first too when they threw out iTunes and replaced it with music ?

Im with the OP here.
Most of my songs are taken from CDs that I own and have converted to MP3's and transferred to my iPhone.
Some of my songs Ive downloaded from iTunes in the past.
I feel things just get messy!

I really just hate iCloud music sync.
I want to hear the files that I have, I don't want them replaced with what Apple thinks they are. I understand there is a certain audience of people who that would work for to save space, but I buy high-capacity devices so that I can have my 25,000 songs on all of them. They really should make it an option to have iCloud music share without having to overwrite your existing files.

I have a folder on my drive where I keep all "my music" I still use Apple Music but as like you hate that it tries to replace my music I had put in. there is an option to create two Music library's and not sign in with your Apple ID but that's a pain in the backside.

While I'm not experiencing any issues myself with this topic - reading this makes me miss the simple days of buying tracks and the iPod. The music listening experience on the iPhone has degraded in my opinion, with a UI that's just not pleasant. And buying tracks seems harder to do - some (Like Chance the Rapper) don't even have tracks to purchase!

pretty sure you can do this using imazing.

i bought this a while back to transfer all my files from an older iPad to a new iPad air 4 which refused to show up under iTunes on an older system running 10.13.6.

i was pretty shocked when the initial transfer from iPad to iPad air did not work as described by apple. BOTH devices needed to be already at iPadOS 14.x. that little detail was lacking in the migration documentation.

Apple Music interface on ios AND mac os sucks. they are forcing streaming down our throats. i really miss the simplicity of itunes and not having to go through so much just access my own music. and i am not even going to bothet making any playlists. Whenever I would get a new computer, and I would load my iTunes media folder into iTunes my playlist with all repopulate no problem but now on with all these upgrades it doesn't do that and I've lost all of my playlists With my recent macbook upgrade, even though I have an Apple Music subscription from my carrier, I have been using Spotify for a while and that's what I will continue to use

I have a love hate relationship with Spotify. By time I hit college years and started curating my own music tastes I was broke and Spotify was cheap - so while I'm not a fan of streaming, I'm a subscriber of Spotify. They have a nice UI and the Spotify Connect feature is fantastic.

What's funny is that I was never about streaming I always preferred to own my music and not have to worry about paying monthly for something or being off-line but Apple Music is what made me start using streaming service and at some point I migrated to Spotify. I love Spotify because they recommend the best songs on the radio stations after a song I like is playing I have discovered so many amazing tracks that way I love Spotify. I had considered using one of those apps that lets you transfer your playlists From Spotify to Apple Music because I recently got Apple Music included in my wireless plan and I figured no reason to have both, but the app only works if Apple Music has iCloud sync active which I refuse to do so I'm remaining with Spotify
