How to transfer Windows based Outlook email/archives onto iCloud?

How do I make this transfer? I have a lot of email and don't want to simply throw it on my brand new MacBook Air. I am brand new to Apple, but will this transfer require me to first take my email and put it on Gmail or something like that and then transfer it to iCloud? Any specific instruction would be helpful.
