I know my only option is to get it first by ordering it online to be delivered but how would I be able to return it without any disadvantages ?

Like having to pay a fee if I return it ?

Is it ok to order it from Apple.com and only use the phone as a tablet first ?

Then return it but buy it again from Verizon instead sense they offer better deals after I know for sure I like it?

They’re all just businesses so don’t worry about morality, they’re not mom and pop shops. :)

Apple has no restocking fee so you could save on a drive, have an unlocked model delivered, then return in-store.

Just order it online from apple.com and try it for 14 days. On Day 14, initiate the return online on your account. You technically have additional 14 days after you hit initiate the return. Apple sends you the free returning shipping label, you can use their box that they used when they delivered your iphone or get your own box.

I guess my main question is it ok to do ?

‘Yes it is OK. Make sure your expectations are realistic, but returning a phone once, even twice for another model is fine. Apple just wants you to use and buy it’s products.

Honestly I do not care just want my money back toward a different size or model

Yes, that is perfectly fine to do so. I.e received a defective item, you can return it and exhange for a new one of the same color. You can also return it for other reasons, but of course as long as you aren't abusing the system you should be fine.

I think you ought to do whatever allows you to sleep at night. Morality is personal; I don’t believe anonymous people on the Internet should determine what is “right” or “wrong” for you.
Very nicely said.

It is entirely morally defensible given that you feel like there is some possibility that you might want to actually buy the phone. Regardless if you buy it through Apple or another vendor, Apple would rather you try it, find you like it, get an iPhone from anywhere at all and possibly become a longer term customer buying things off of the App Store, Apple services and future devices, than you thinking it's not OK to try it with an intent to return and then staying on other platforms. Apple has a no-questions asked return policy for a reason. Some argue that what they determine to be unjustified returns makes Apple pump the prices higher for the customers that don't return the device such that they can keep the return policy, but ultimately, Apple thinks it's a smart business decision to have said return policy. If they had a roughly equivalent level of sales and nobody ever returned their device, sure, it could be cheaper - though I am not convinced that the savings would come to the customer. Regardless, Apple must deem that they can earn more total revenue this way

What about friends with iPhones to try the phone a little while being with them at an event / at home / at work ?

I dunno about you but I wouldn’t be comfortable letting friends explore my phone. Email, messages, etc. are all readily accessible once you unlock the phone.

Besides, I think you actually need to use it regularly for a couple of weeks with your account, settings and apps to get an accurate feel for the device.

I got my iPhone 13 last year. Verizon had a "larger discount" then as well, and I also planned to pay $600 towards the phone at the time of purchase, so I thought I would only owe a couple of hundred dollars after getting a model with more memory. But the discount isn't applied all at once as a lump sum, its broken into 24 monthly payments (2 years).

I haven't looked to see if my phone payment will end before the 2 year payoff time does or not, but if they had applied the entire $250 (I think, it may have been only $200) at the time of purchase then I would already own the phone now.
