Can anyone tell me how to turn notifications center off? When I'm writing I hate being interrupted by the pestilence of reminders and incoming emails.

There is a button on the drop menu, but it only turns it off for a day, and resets to the "on" position.

System Preferences->Notifications->pick application you do not want notifications for and then select None in alert style.

Have you tried clicking the Notifications icon in System Preferences?

None of the suggestions actually turn them off. They still show up no matter what I do.

And you can only fully disable them with the toggle switch once per day. I just don't understand why you can't disable them. They are very intrusive to someone that doesn't use them.
