Settings > General Dark mode. Then, go to Accessibilty > Reduce Transparency.

Then, just like in full screen where it turns the area left/right of the notch pitch black, the menu bar will be pitch black also, and the notch vanishes. This menu bar with mini LED will be as black as the bezel. BTW, this turns the background of the Dock black also. I love it. (we need more ideas how to turn the area left and right of the notch black.)

I wouldn't be surprised in a future macOS update, in the Dock & Menu Bar pane of System Preferences, a check box that says something to the effect, "Blackout menu bar." Or "Stealth menu bar." Because a lot of people don't mind the other aspects of the UI transparency and/or might not want to be in dark mode either.

Good idea, DHagen. I guess a black wallpaper plus hiding the menu bar would do it?

Well good for you, but this is the precise problem with the "reduce transparency" solution - it's all or nothing. I think the solid dock background looks awful. God forbid Apple should give us more precise control over the menu bar. Look at this horrible contrast with the white icons. Sort of ridiculous that users would have to make a custom wallpaper to get around this or change to one with a darker area at the top. We should be able to just make the menu bar a solid color with a simple option under System Preferences. Unreal.

Why does dark matter? Why not just a bright wallpaper in 16:10 then add 74 pixels of black at the top?
That’s what I did - used a favorite photo for my wallpaper and just added a black bar on the top. Looks great. ??
