How to undo delete old text messages?

When checking out my iPhone storage I accidentally toggled the button to auto delete old conversations and their media over a year old…. I didn’t want to do this but now the phone will not let me in toggle it… any suggestions? Thanks

Be patient. It may take some time for the older messages to delete, especially if you have a lot, because the messages are also being deleted in iCloud and other devices signed into iCloud… that, or it’s a bug. So restart your iPhone.

If the message was deleted, it is gone. Not much you can do.

There is a "Recently Deleted" folder for messages. I think they stay in there for a month.
