how to uninstall the whine blocker

so I have a first gen MBP core duo that had the oh-so-pleasing high pitched whine.


well I installed....something, that made it go away and I don't remember what it was.

It's not a program, it changed something internally, I know you could use the mirror in dashboard, or there was one that kept your computer always working at like 2% to get rid of it, but this one opened up almost like a firmware update and you had to authorize it, and then decide to keep it.

the reason I ask is that I want to uninstall it. It works perfectly, but I'm having my computer sent in friday to fix some pretty major issues (harddrive failure, not-sleeping, airport not connecting, fans eating each other, screen flickering, etc.) and I I also listed the whine.

Since I'm having everything else fixed ,I would like for them to go ahead and replace whatever they were replacing to get rid of the whine, (I was told it was the logic board).

any help on what it was (I think it was called silent mbp) and how to get rid of it would be greatly appreciated.

(btw, the whine comes back when you shut down, durning the little spinning thing the whine is there... so it seems like it is something that loads with the OS.)

To fix everything else you mentioned, they will be replacing the logic board anyway, and I think that is where the firmware is located.

But I'm always worried that if they can't "find" the issues that i've been having, they'll box it back up and send it back to me without fixing anything.

So I would like to be able to get the whine back, in order to have that definitively fixed.


searching around for it now, it seems that the software actually changed the code to the PMU... i found guides of how to do it on the internet, but I haven't found the software that I used that did it for you.

(this would also explain the 30 minute shorter battery life I have)

If they don't fix the issue, then you get on the phone with them, and you complain (politely as possible) until they do fix it.
