How to unmerge contacts & calendar

I installed ios5 on both my iphone4 and my wife's. It merged all of my contact information and calendar appointments from both phones. How can I get back to where we were and how do we prevent this from happening again?

I installed ios5 on both my iphone4 and my wife's. It merged all of my contact information and calendar appointments from both phones. How can I get back to where we were and how do we prevent this from happening again?

To keep everything separate in the future, you'll both need separate iCloud logins. This is why it mangled everything up. You can attempt to turn off syncing of contacts and calendars and see where that takes you. (Don't worry about losing them as they have already synced with iCloud.)
