Howdy guys.

I've just gotten myself an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone off eBay. It looks like it's an American one (it has AT&T listed on the box plus has a two pin charging thingy).

Just one or two little problems though - it looks like it has an old version of installer.app, the one I've got on my iPod touch looks much different. I can't install SummerBoard - it says I need to be on firmware 1.1.1, so I try the old version but I get a message telling me that I need to have firmware 1.1.x?

Is there a way for me to upgrade (or downgrade so I can start afresh) it to run 1.1.2? I did it on my iPod Touch with no problems, but I don't want to brick the iPhone or mess with the unlock situation.

For what it's worth, the about screen says I'm running on 1.1.1 (3A109a) and my model number is Ma712LL.

Any help would be apreciated, I really want to be able to install some actual apps.

I simply can't recomend an update. There is only one instance you can update and that is if YOU KNOW which unlocking program your seller used. If they used the free anySIM method, be sure to read all the guides on how to update your iPhone. And if your seller used the paid iPhone SimFree method, just update right away, iPhone SimFree unlock survives the update plus won't brick your iPhone.

Bear in mind!!! That eBay sellers tell you to update at you own RISK and SO DO I!! You risk everything when updating no matter which method...only difference one method is more friendly than the other.

I've e-mailed the original seller to ask for some details of what method they used, hopefully that should get me on the right track.
