Hi all,
I have an iphone 4 running 5.0.1 JB. I'm happy with it at the moment but at some stage wouldn't mind upgrading to 5.1.1 or even 6.
My question is from 5.0.1 do I have to upgrade to 5.1.0 and to 5.1.1 or can I go straight to 5.1.1?
Other question is shall I not even bother and wait until a JB arrives for 6 and go for it? but Do I need to go 5.1.1 first again to upgrade to 6?

iTunes upgrades straight to 6 at the moment so is there a way to download a custom firmware (5.1.1) and install that, can anyone also suggest a step by step guide or some other website?

thanks a lot..

I can answer part of that for you. NO - you don't have to update to any firmware in between your current and the latest, you can go straight to 5.1.1 / 6.

If Apple has stopped signing 5.1.1 (not sure - hoping someone else will chime in), you'll need your APTicket and SHSH blobs saved (check TU/Cydia to see if you have these). If Apple has indeed stopped signing 5.1.1 now, without the APTicket and SHSH blobs, you'll have to either stay where you're at, or update to iOS 6.

I've been out of the loop for a couple months - I know that the iP4 can jailbreak iOS6, just not sure if it's untethered. Maybe someone else can clarify. I'd wait to hear before jumping in...

As of now, Apple is still signing 5.1.1

Good to know. How long is the average time before Apple's "cut-off" (assuming there is some sort of consistency)?

Also, any chance that the iP4 gets a pass on iOS 6 being madatory (like how Apple still signs 4.x.x for the 3GS and older models)?

Thanks!

Hi, thanks a lot for your reply. I have SHSH blobs saved I reckon cos when I go to cydia it shows 5.0.1, 5.1,5.1.1 and 5.1.r1. But I've got no idea what APTicket is, never heard of it is it in cydia?
In that case I might just stay at 5.0.1 and go straight to 6 when a JB is out.

Thanks for the reply. When open iTunes it says there's and upgrade to 5.1.1 but when I click upgrade the message says phone will upgrade to 6. Interesting? I live in New Zealand.

Thanks

Apple stopped signing 5.1.1
We got almost 48 hours exactly
Lucky, normal is 8-12 hours

$#@%!!! I've been stuck at the office and unable to update! Guess I'm stuck on 5.1 tethered until the Dev team finds an untethered JB solution for iOS 6.

Cydia never saved my SHSH blobs for 5.1.1 (not that it would matter as I never updated to 5.1.1 in order to snag the APTicket - just odd...).

Are you 100% sure cydia doesn't have them? I'm always anal about saving my blobs with tiny umbrella. I also use iSHSHit as a backup. Do you not use iSHSHit? I would double check to see if cydia has them. Plus you're on the iPhone 4 right? If you do have the 5.1.1 blobs then I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) you can restore to 5.1.1 with redsn0w. Here's the link to The iPhone dev teams blog post regarding the matter.

All I currently use is RedSn0w. Used it to save blobs and APTicket for 5.1 manually. I also see that Cydia saved my 5.1 blobs (at the top of Cydia's home page), but it never saved 5.1.1 (which I thought it would do for me even if I wasn't on 5.1.1). Since I've never officially been on 5.1.1, I can't save them manually (right?).

You don't have to officially be on a particular firmware to save the blobs. Tiny umbrella will save all available blobs meaning it will run down the list of firmwares for your device and save any blobs that apple is signing. For example, I have my 6.0 blobs saved even though I have never installed 6.0 on my device. I used iSHSHit to save them. Then after I saved them, I used iSHSHit to email them to myself. Does that clarify thing?

As far as cydia is concerned, I've read in the past that sometimes cydia will have your hash and apticket even if it doesn't list it at the top when you are on the homepage of cydia. Now I have never experienced this myself and that could be false information. Maybe someone will more knowledge in this area will chime in with some additional information. Regardless, I suggest you use tiny umbrella (or redsnow?) when you get home to see if cydia has them cached. Can't hurt right?

i am also in the same situation.

i have just got my iP5 today and want to update to 5.1.1 and keep the JB on my iP4 currently on 5.0.1 for my friend to use

Those of you using Redsn0w to manually save hashes should be using TinyUmbrella.
Easy and painless, keeps you from getting locked out.

Completely agree. What's your opinion on iSHSHit? Do you ever recommend it? It seems like the dev is trying to stay more on top of it and keep it updated. If my memory serves me correct, he was a little behind on updating it for the earlier iOS5 firmwares and also the inclusion of the apticket but he seems to have caught up. Today he updated the app to support iOS6. Of course this app is only useful for devices that are already jailbroken. In the end tiny umbrella is always the best and easiest way to go and should be everyone's number 1 choice.

I use it as a backup to TinyUmbrella, but Redsn0w does have some hiccups using it's saved hashes.

The newest PkgBackup saves those hashes from iSHSHit to Dropbox which I like.

ive saved all SHSH as seen on tinyumbrella. Ran the TSS server and tried to update to 5.1.1 and it keeps giving me an error 11. Help!

upgrading from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 on 4S

Hi all,
I have an iphone 4 running 5.0.1 JB.

I was looking to do the same thing. I have 5.0.1 and want to get to 5.1.1. Any idea where to get the update?

I'm completely lost. now Am I waiting until a JB for 6 or do I have to upgrade to 5.1.1? and what is APTicket?

Did you save your SHSH for 5.1.1 with TinyUmbrella or does Cydia show 5.1.1 SHSH in the top?

If so you can try to upgrade to 5.1.1 with the SHSH stitched to it with redsn0w, no guarantees though, the devs are saying 5.1.1-5.1.1 or 5.01-5.01 restores only.

The APTicket is combined with your 5+ SHSH when you save it, not a seperate thing, but you do need it to restore.
Download 5.1.1 IPSW from http://m.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750
Than in redsnow go to extras/SHSH blobs/stitch create an new IPSW, with that alt-restore (mac) or shift-restore(win) in iTunes.

once again no guarantees

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have the 5.1.1 saved to cydia. I think I'll wait until a JB for 6 and go straight from 5.0.1. Do I have to worry about APTicket at the moment then?

thanks

If you have SHSH in cydia it should be ok also your APTicket, you can use redsn0w to verify if you have full 'blobs' if you don't have them you can't restore to 5.0.1 if something goes wrong and have to go to 6.0.

If you have them, you can restore to 5.01
