Have a friend that has a Charter.net email (IMAP) account. She also has iCloud on her new MacBook Pro and she wants to migrate over from her xxxx@ charter. net to xxxx @me. com gradually. Also can’t get her Charter outgoing server to work but don’t want to use it anyway (Apple couldn't get it to for either before me). When I click on the iCloud Account I can see the iCloud (iCloud) Outgoing Mail Server in the Outgoing Mail Server list. However when I select her Charter email I no longer have iCloud listed in the Outgoing Mail Server list (same on my Mac too but I can see all the other ones listed). I tried setting up an xxxx @me. com Outgoing Mail Server manually (smtp.mail.me.com) but it doesn’t work. How do I get all her outgoing email to come from her iCloud (xxxx @me. com)?

Does mail for the iCloud account work fine? If yes, then you really just need to select the sending (From:) account when you reply to an email that came in on the Charter account.

Yes, this is a manual step for each Charter email replied to, but hopefully she'll have less and less to reply to from the Charter account.

Can you set Charter to FORWARD her mail to her me.com account?

If so, I would move the IMAP Folders (within mail.app) to the iCloud Account and then just start using iCloud and drop the Charter Email Account.

Then tell everyone to start using the me.com account. You can also setup a RULE to move the Charter Email to a separate folder to monitor who is still using it.

I'll look at this next time I see her. She is out of town this week. Right off hand do you setup email forwarding in OS X or do I (she) have to contact/setup through Charter?

EDIT: Broke my own cardinal rule: Never waste 30 seconds typing a question when you can just Google it.:D

I found that Charter offers a way to setup email forwarding. I will set this up, move her Charter IMAP's to iCloud and delete the Charter email account from her Mac and iOS devices. This way as she replies to all emails they will be from her iCloud account and not Charter.

Thx
