I have a 2006 Mac Pro Tower that only has DVI out for video monitoring. I just bought a iMac 27" and would like to use that as my monitor for my Mac Pro . I purchased a Gefen converter that is supposed to make my DVI compatible with Mini DV but it does NOT work. Has anyone had any luck and if so can you please post in detail what you did and where to get the products to make it happen.

Thank you so much!

Anyone?

Edit: I see you already got the Gefen adapter, maybe it is not compatible with the new 27" imacs?

This new Atlona adapter is said to be compatible:

You're in a pickle. You can't do it, quite simply. You need native DisplayPort or an adapter that converts Dual-Link DVI to DisplayPort.

Did you read the text that's in the picture?

I wrote the text in that picture  (with Skitch).

If he wants to use a (single link) DVI interface he will get a non-native resolution (1920x1080), isn't it possible? Of course the result will be quite sh i t t y....

The real solution is buying a new video card with a Mini-DP.

But that doesn't mean that adapter won't work.

It's a 2006 Mac Pro, there is no video card with Mini-DP for it (I think).
