Hi im the main account holder and I have 3 other people. I don't want them to use my credit card for purchases.

I bought 1 iTunes store gift card for $25 and want to use that on one of the users.

How do I get them to use that instead of my card?

Thanks!

If memory serves, even if you add a gift card to your account and it's credited, it will still automatically charge to your credit/debit card. I'm not sure if it's different these days, though.

The workaround for this is adding the gift card, then removing your card details and selecting 'None'. From there you can guarantee that the purchase will be credited to the gift card, and you can add the credit card back in later.

I'm sure another poster will be able to clarify if there's an easier way to do this!

So does that mean I personally have to add the gift card myself instead of my credit card? Or can individuals do it?

The only reason I have family share is to save money on Apple Music.

I imagine individuals can add it, though I'd certainly remove your credit card details before encouraging they do that.

When you're the holder of the account iTunes won't let you remove the credit card. It requires an active credit card on file.

There's an option for 'None' that you can click. :)

Oh, I see - I wasn't aware that wouldn't work on a family plan. I'm sorry for having mislead you there, my apologies.

Maybe the best bet is is for me (the primary holder of the plan) is to just have others in the plan send me money if they are going to buy anything. Or I can just use a gift card instead of my credit card. I never buy anything off the App Store.
