Normally I buy my phones at Costco but I have some Best Buy gift cards, Best Buy wants to charge me $40 to transfer from my iPhone 11 to a new iPhone 13.

If I do it at home using Quickstart will it work easily? I have extremely fast Wi-Fi.

Are there any problems that come up sometimes that I don’t wanna deal with or not thank you for your help.

Transferring data to a new iPhone is child’s play. Certainly not worth $40.
Direct iPhone to iPhone transfer is part of the set up process. You’ll be prompted to do it. All it requires is to click “Yes” and have the other iPhone next to the new one.

But always have a backup too

Thanks, the salesperson said the reason was it takes an hour or more to do the transfer. I dont know what he meant, if he meant downloading every app, then I can do that myself.

So all I need them to do is ACTIVATE the phone on my Verizon account, it is replacing a phone and I am paying for it in full. Make sure they activate it on the right number as we have two phone numbers/phones, and then I can do the rest when I get home. Thanks...

You mean backup the original phone first. (if I say something wrong please advise) and there is nothing else to it.

Wait, found this:

and this

Am I doing "other options" and setting up from a backup or just transferring from one phone to the other? Which way will have everything that is on my current phone on the new phone including photos etc?

There’s four ways to set up a new iPhone. Choices 1-3 will all give the same end result.

  1. iPhone to iPhone transfer
  2. Restore new iPhone from an iCloud backup
  3. Restore new iPhone from a Mac backup
  4. Set up as factory default new then download all your apps manually separately (total pain)
Choice #4 is usually the least desirable choice (because it takes so long to get everything right again) and often only used to try to fix a corrupt malfunctioning iPhone. The choice of last resort — though some people choose it anyway.

When I purchased my last iPhone, (directly from Apple) I just removed the SIM card from my old iPhone and stuck it in my new iPhone and that was that. Then just restored it from a backup.

Thanks for the good news, it should be very simple for me to do at home.

If they put the new phone on the correct phone number, when I leave the store my current phone will no longer be connected to Verizon/cellular , right?

Option two does not require me to physically connect the new or old phone to a laptop or anything right, I don’t have to get onto iTunes to do that? On my phone now in settings in iCloud I have backup on so that means my backup is in the Cloud, yes?

My past experiences before quick start at Costco there was no need to connect anything to anything physically so this restore new phone from backup is an option on the screen of the new phone and only thing I need is my username and password for iCloud Apple etc. to do this right?

I am just trying to be prepared if quick start does not work for some reason, my memory is a year ago when I got this iPhone 11 it would not work. Is Quick start using Wi-Fi to have the phones talk to each other> I mean when I leave the store the new phone will be activated to my Verizon acct with my phone # and the old phone will no longer have cellular, so how do the phones talk to each other?

Lastly, does option 1 or 2 prompt me to turn "find my iPhone" off on the old phone? I dont want to turn it off now because I am not sure when I am going to do this, but I know I will forget to turn it off before I start the process.

Phone to phone transfer requires that Wi-Fi is turned on on the phones but I don’t think you need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Yes backing up to iCloud doesn’t require the phone to be physically connected to anything but power. It has to be plugged into power to do an iCloud backup.

As far as setting up and backing up and restoring from a backup- Find My isn’t part of that equation. It can be turned on or off later.
