How well is the iPhone selling?

Went by AT&T today to play with the iPhone for the first time. The store is right across from the Lenox all here in Atlanta, working at Atl right now, and they had every model available. Store was pretty packed but most were playing with treo's, 8525's, pearls, and curves. I wonder how well the iPhone is really selling? Obviously not as predicted with the low production numbers and stores with inventory. Also check AT&T’s web site for iPhone availability and most stores have them. This is interesting....

I don't think it is kicking ass as much as people thought it was. Unless AT&T stores are getting new shipments in constantly, which I doubt. Why does Apple put "ships 2 - 4 week's" on the site if you can walk in almost any store and buy one.

It's apples way of putting a fake sense of "demand" on the market.

It is quite laughable. Dunno, Apple will have mines to sell come tomorrow.

No wonder the inventory is there, the same ones are getting sold and returned constantly.....lol

Obviously, you haven't been keeping up with the news.

The most liberal prediction was that 350,000 units would be sold during launch week. The most recent reports indicate >1,000,000 units sold.

It's well known that Apple replenished its retail stock this week.

Apple wants the iPhone in consumers' hands. Apple is pumping out the product to ensure a constant supply. That's good for consumers because its bad for scalpers/eBayers.

Also, it puts the product out there...within reach; word-of-mouth is a huge marketing tool. Everyone who has fondled my iPhone has walked away determined to buy one.

Don't be fooled by the naysayers. By all accounts, the iPhone has been a smashing success.

No not trolling just being silly. I think the Iphone is doing well because of all the hype but I don't think they are doing as well as they think they are with the amount of frustrated people. I know as someone who travels a lot for business and needs the high speed internet and ability to open and edit word, excel, powerpoint... that the current version won't work for me. I am disappointed honestly but hopefully version 2 will do these things. Have my fingers crossed. God know I love the interface.

Also what do they do with all the returned phones? They can't resale them as new can they?
 
Sony should hire you as a financial analyst! The PS3 was sold out in mere minutes after launch, so by your logic they must have sold at least 1 billion units by now, right?!?!
 
lol, it is amazing how sensitive people are, especially about something they spent mucho mula on. God knows I was sensitive about the last little scratch/mark/smudge on my MBP for the first month, now I'm like a little scratch here, mark there.... oh well.

No people are just not very fond of trolls. You can in here posting something you knew was not true to create problems. You may call it a joke while others just are frustrated by it.

I hear what you're saying, but I don't believe there's as much disappointment as you think.

Due to the hype, rumors of disgruntled buyers spread like wildfire, and the "facts" behind such rumors grow to mythic proportions. Face it, most folks want it to fail.

However, I have yet to meet a real live iPhone owner who is unhappy. The iPhone is everything it was hyped to be. It is undoubtedly revolutionary.

It does everything (and more than) I expected it to do, and what it does, it does it better than any other phone on the market.

You're spot on that it's not fit for the mobile professional (yet), but if MS Exchange/Active Sync come along, the iPhone will be much closer to bridging that gap.

Not sure what you're referring to as "sensitive". You reported inaccurate and distorted information - like: "...Obviously not as predicted with the low production numbers and stores with inventory.". It bugs people. At least, those who bothered to reply (still not sure why I bothered - guess I'm bored with the movie that's on at the moment).

Last I heard, the store was selling out its daily shipments.

I really do hope it will be "supped" up for the "mobile professional" before too long. I really like the phone, the interface is awesome. Typing for me was a little bit of a challenge but I am sure it was mainly because am not use to it. Weird not feeling the keys, have to constantly look at the screen. I could care less about photo/video, iChat, and whatever. I just want it to have keynote, office, and 3.5G. Just think about the market Apple is missing out on with the "mobile professional" who ALL have PDA's. Oh well stuck with the bulky 8525 for now....

You can type on the 8525 without looking at it?!?!?! :eek:

I could NEVER think of doing that on my Treo or my wife's 6700.

Not a whole message but to a certain extent yes. Just like on a regular keyboard you memorize where the keys are, your brain knows it has to move the fingers or thumb a certain amount to press the desired key. I don't know if you have ever played with the keyboard on the 8525 but in my opinion it is the best in the industry for typing. You can type like a champ on that thing and it is a very powerful phone, every feature any other phone has that I can think of and more. Just bulky and windows... But otherwise a great phone. 850kb+ data rates. You can even hook the thing up to a projector and run a powerpoint.

Yes I've played with one. Wife has a 6800 now but not a fan of slideouts.

Why would apple go for that market with their first release? That wouldn't be very smart. They wouldn't have sold have the phones they did if they targeted and tailored the phone towards business professionals. They obviously weren't designing the iPhone for your needs so you don't have to buy one. Let the rest of us enjoy a great product. :cool:
 
well i went to an ATT store today looking for a case.....

and of course went to go look at the display model... and there was one gentleman deeply interested that was playing with it.... he went over and asked the worker if they had any and her answer was...

"we are all sold out... we get a shipment EVERY weekday and sell out of them almost immediatly"

so to me thats a great sign....

this was in San Dimas, CA

Are you kidding? One of my friends has the 8525 and she hates it. It crashes on her constantly and barely works. Her company is sending back their entire order and going with different devices, because so many people are having trouble with it.
