How will a 2011 i7quad core 2.0 compare to the dual core 3.0 i5/i7 in the 13 inch 2016? for my uses?

How will a 2011 i7quad core 2.0 compare to the dual core 3.0 i5/i7 in the 13 inch 2016? for my uses? Does anyone have bench marks or know where I could find them. I wanted to get the 15 but its almost way 2much unless the 15 inch ssd is user upgradable than maybe i could swing it.

I would be using my laptop for

Photoshop and Lightroom mainly
Ableton Live and Music Software
and some video editing in the future ( prob not but id like to be able to at least do it. )

Quad core vs Dual core

Photoshop, Ableton , Logic Pro are very happy when there are more cores.

End of story. Macbook Pro 2011 ftw.

I think it's twice as fast. Dude...Go for a quad core if you will work with Photoshop and Abelton .

And don't forget the screen. It's hard to mix a song or to edit a photo on a 13" screen .

mentioned this in your other thread. You said you were on a 2011 quad i7, check geek bench for some stats. But I think you'll very similar in core power, quad i7 better multi threaded perf vs new dual i7 3.0 higher single threaded perf.

There is gains in the fact that your network card is faster, usb 3, smaller form factor, battery life, and retina screen.

But weigh this against the fact that your core power will probably be similar and less upgradable. Your rocking a 2011, 15 screen, with 16 gig ram and SSD. The beauty of those gen 2 unibodies is the fact that you can upgrade them pretty easily.

I would not drop 2k to go down to the 13 inch unless battery power was absolutely a deal breaker. I would keep rocking your 2011 and wait out the Kaby lake rMBP and you'll have even more choices to pick from and better prices if you can last another 6 months to year.

I'm with you. I'm thinking the top-end dual core BTO processor in the 13" will be faster than the quad core from 2011.

The new quad core 15", however, I'm hoping will be a screamer. If so, papa has a new bag.

They're very different types of CPUs. The newer ones use much less engery and have more cache. So even if the numbers are about the same, the newer cpus will have the edge. I know this from experience.

ah so little to no upgrade than.hmmm. I guess i could just buy an iPad with my apple credit and than wait for the next MacBook. blehhh but i dont wanna. Is it true with the barclays card that if i dont use it within 30 days than they close it? or is that only for the apple rewards.
