How will Apple prevent MMS on 2G iPhones?

Is there a chance the devteam will be able to enable MMS for those using the original 2G iPhone? We all know the "hardware requirements" excuse is B.S.

Not that I would be concerned if it was not possible, as I don't mind emailing my pics to my contacts phones. I just am curious as to how Apple will "block" MMS from the 2G iPhones while enabling it on the 3G & 3GS.

I am currently using the original 2G iPhone 8GB unlocked yet not jailbroken with T-Mobile service in case any want to know. Thank you. :)
 
It's probably going to be the carriers that block it. The phone's IMEI will show that you have an iPhone 2G, and they can just block MMS capabilities (like how ATT is blocking SwirlyMMS from jailbroken devices).
 
Remove the capability from the 3.0 Firmware on the 2G, or like the above said and block it through the carrier.
 
It aint going to happen.
Maybe you can get it to work with swirlymms but its a real pain and sometimes it dont last.
Once its blocked by AT&T there is isnt much you can hack. Its just aint comming thru.
 
I understand the replies regarding AT&T service,
but what about those of us UNLOCKED and on T-MOBILE?
Will there be a way to enable MMS for 2G iPhones with different carriers??
 
If your unlocked and on T-Mobile, you can use MMS right now! Just download SwirlyMMS from Cydia. You have to buy it but it's worth it and the only solution of you want MMS. AT&T has blocked it, but T-Mobile probably works. I don't see why it wouldn't.

Swirly does not work that well for me under t-mobile. The images received are downsized and look really bad. I'd rather receive through email. Sending MMS is fine. No issues there.
 
Maybe something will be released by the Dev team to enable MMS on the 2G for other carriers besides AT&T that dont like to block their users MMS acess.
We'll just have to wait and see.
Swirly works for Tmobile and many other international GSM carriers but like mentioned above is not that solid.

Software limitation. iTunes will check your hardware's ID and configuration, and if it detects anything less than the 3G, then iTunes will not install the MMS portion into the 1st Gen iPhone.

Simple, also AT&T might block some ports on their network to prevent people using SwirlyMMS with jailbroken iPhones.

Do you believe the devteam will create a way to circumvent this procedure?
 
if they can block the battery meter % appearing on the 3G they can surely add a conditional subrutine in the messages app that disables the mms part if using 2G hardware...
 
How about voice command, can the dev team enable that? It has nothing to do w/ att
 
sorry i find them not allowing this on 2g phones unacceptable

why? because the plans you are paying to att INCLUDE MMS CAPABILITY

this is not a hardware issue as how could it be? its all software. if you are paying for a service but am getting intentionally denied it, id be upset and ditch the iphone personally

I do hope they will. SwirlyMMS costs money and is a separate app from the 3.0 Messages app. It isn't very reliable as well and the interface does not mesh with the overal iPhone user experience. Why should we have to pay $8 for an MMS app when the devteam could enable it for us? This whole issue is confusing and a tad absurd, to say the least.

If you set your UserAgent in Swirle to SE_W800i then the images come out large and great. :)
