How will the top MBP compare to what's left?

Top of the line config is in the price range of a mid level Mac Pro at high-mid $3,000's.

2.7GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
768GB Flash Storage

Assume would need thunderbolt enclosures for the storage drives and use current 30" monitor and firewire sound, what are the pluses and minuses with regard to 4 vs 6 cores, general performance, limit of 16gb ram? etc. I wonder if iMac (if they didn't kill that too) will compare to the above specs. Basically how is this thing going to perform compared to the MP2010 specs in my signature below. I have to start being realistic now about all options.

The 2.7 i7-3820QM scores around 13,000 to 16,000 in geekbench. But this is running in Windows 64 bit and people normally get faster results in Geekbench when running in Windows.

The single CPU 6 core 3.33 scores about 15,000

The thing is, on long and demanding tasks the hex core 3.33 will still beat the MBP quite easily since the MBP will be throttling itself down as it heats up. Also, it depends on your workflow and whether the applications you use can utilise more than 4 cores. If they do, then the 6 core Mac Pro will be significantly faster.

I see your point, but lets face it, the places where the technology has been updated will begin to make the current MP suffer. Mem speed, pci bus, graphics. Man this is really messing with me. I guess I'm wondering what the next best thing would be assuming I don't go Windows. I do a lot of Logic Pro and Photoshop.

I'm in the same boat, I can't justify spending thousands on old hardware, no sata 3, usb3, or thunderbolt. It's just not worth it...

Probably the highest end iMac but there's no point not like we are opening that up regularly... That new MBP looks nice but again I don't know how it will perform just yet.

I worry about the internal Flash speed and the soldered in everything. No memory upgrade, no HD upgrade, can't replace the battery. It's like an iPad flattened out with a keyboard and a wicked proc. As the walled garden extends.

Oh trust me I feel the same way, I need to get into my computer, I just wish apple would've given us the upgrade we all wanted s badly.

Retina, usb3, thunderbolt, (sata3?), the spec upgrades, I mean it's current technology the new MBP. And Id love to see how it handles audio compared to the Mac pro.

Will just need raid arrays lolol.
