I am a bit challenged when it comes to tech stuff  and thought I had read that there is an app that will let me get to my home laptop from aywhere with my iphone.

Can anyone please help me on where I can get this app and what I would have to do to use it ?

Thank you
Sandra

the Jaadu(teleport) app
$25
there's also Mocha VNC, but i hear Jaadu is better.

it's GREAT. i use it at school to start torrents, so that they finish before i get home.

oh and i use it to scare the crap out of my brothers. blast the music way up out of nowhere. or play creepy sounds. awesome.

:D Sounds like fun lol
If i get the Jaadu app do I have to do anything on my computer to make it work ? Also does my computer need to be turned on at all times ?

iblastoff thanks is it painfully slow ?

no way. over 3g, i can control my laptop just fine. when you open up a new window or close one is when you'll notice a slow down. otherwise it's as if you're right in front of your pc. i'll control my torrents and see their current download rates fluctuate and everything.

there isn't any sound though and video doesn't really play it just streams still images. i just wish my lappy had a built in webcam so that i could survey my room whenever i'm away.

as for the computer side, you'll need to set up a VNC server with TightVNC(recommended) and i also had to set up a server with no-ip.com, due to technical difficulties with the basic setup.
also i leave my laptop on 24/7. i don't think you can turn it on with Jaadu.

but there is a separate app just with that function. i think there's one called iWOL(wake on lan).

so i think a iWOL and Jaadu combo would work fine.

obviously its not slow when you're just moving around a cached screenshot image of your home computer. but when you actually try to click/move/open/close anything (aka actually interact with your computer) over 3g it is definitely slow. not to say that it is unusable, but just letting the OP know.

Am I correct in saying that iWOL (Wake On LAN) does not work on Laptops? Something to do with the bios on laptops; or is there a way of making it work?

I've Googled it and most people talk about what information you need to add to your iPhone, IP, Port etc, but there seems to be a glimmer of hope that this will work on a laptop. Even the App description makes no mention of it not working on a laptop, it just says that it must be plugged in using Ethernet and does not work on a wifi card, which is fine. Surely if the App doesn't work on laptops they should state that before taking peoples money.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
