How would I do something like thins in CS3

Hi guys, I'm a cs3 amateur hobbyist and I'm trying to figure out how to achieve an effect similar to the attached image. I'm using photoshop and I know all the basics, I'm just not sure where to begin trying to duplicate something like this. I'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction.

I'd try making a bunch of circles in Photoshop, each on a different layer. Knock the opacity down to 50% (or less) on each and lay them partially over one another, then play with the blending modes (Normal, Multiply, Color Burn, Overlay, etc.). That should give you a start.

What he said...but to add to that, you could try to blur some of the circles (filters > Blur) and maybe even put a subtle drop shadow on a few (Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow)

Don't forget adding a stroke very soft and thin most of those designs have that to make the edges pop.

Also, it looks like two of those circles have a slightly darker colored stroke applied to them. Since you're using Photoshop, you can add the stroke in the Layers effects.

Pick two closely related hues, and apply a gradient across the object and the stroke.

Make a new document to the correct size. Hit the letter "F" to fill the screen to you can select start points outside the actual borders for your gradients. Use the circular gradient tool. Click on the gradient, set it to darken. Use white for both ends of the gradients, and add some black to place the bands where you wish them to fall, slide the ends toward the middle to produce the correct size gradient location and strength, and simply apply the gradients.

The upper left gradients can be applied with the same stroke.
