Lots of mixed opinions on this. Some love it, some hate it, others like parts of it but think it has too many issues to be a GM.

Quick show of hands - what do you think?

Personally, I love some of the features. I think this is an amazing OS. It's just a long way from being what I would call release quality. I know there are going to be point updates, but this creates a very, very poor first impression. They've also followed the FCPX route by changing lots of workflows with little or no documentation. It's Apple's worst release IMO, but it's a pretty good product underneath.
 
Are you asking for my opinion? Well.. let me tell you :)

First of all, I am not a what you'd call a highly educated user, I never go into the Terminal, I don't even know what the X11 app would do. And for any disc action I pray and fast for a week before, just to keep the gods happy. These are heavenly mysteries for me. :)

On my basic and agricultural level I can only talk about enjoyment of use.

I believe that the Lion is a superb OS. I have not found any bugs yet. The release I got (GM seed) has been stable and very very fast. I really appreciate what the boys and girls at 1 Infinite Loop did.

I think the ideas are gone in the right way.

Of course there are things for which I'd like to happen (Spaces... oh how I miss them), but the way I use my machines is probably based on years of "Windowsising" and these forums (and similar) have helped a lot in figuring how the things are done, and why they are done in such a way.

In any case I like it.

There is only one thing I miss but, hey, life is moving onwards... :)

All in all I am quite delighted with the new OS.
 
I'm loving it so far and I think Apple did a good job with it. The little annoyances I have will no doubt be fixed within the first month of release via software updates.
 
I don't think Lion delivers anything mind-blowing, but it does bring some really nice additions to round-out the OS. The UI tweaks are great. I think some people expect there to be a ton of earth-shaking changes in every new version of the OS, but personally I believe the desktop OS is reaching the fulfillment of it's evolution. It's no longer about new features, it's about streamlining and perfecting the user experience. iOS is an environment in it's ascendance and is much more exciting to watch, because it still hasn't gained all the features of the desktop OS.

As for the stability of the GM. I would say it's good enough. Personally, I haven't really noticed any issues, certainly nothing that should halt the release of the OS. Sure Mission Control gets confused when Safari and iTunes are the only two windows open and, yeah, I have found it sometimes misunderstand my two-finger taps around the Dock area. But I haven't had any crashes and I bet a lot of these little things will be cleared up in 10.7.1 next month.

On Snow Leopard, I remember there being a few issues at launch which I noticed and now seem a distant hazy memory.
 
I wont be skipping it, but my initial reaction is that OUT OF THE BOX this is the most unnatural and unintuitive Mac OS to date. Scrolling is inverted. Launchpads huge icons are spreads my apps across multiple pages. Without touch screen interactivity, gestures almost feel random. And a $69 touchpad is almost a requirement in order to fully utilize the new OS. The UI of desktop computing definitely needed some modernization, but taking cues from a handheld OS and translating them to a non-touchscreen large screen OS isn't necessarily the best choice.

Obviously in time we'll get used to the new OS and appreciate all the stuff under the hood. But I feel that much of the iOS "look and feel" has no place on a desktop. I'm eager to learn how apple wants me to do things, but I have to admit that I'm dreading teaching my mom because she's not one to use many "gestures" and a lot of this stuff just doesnt make sense.

It is almost impossible to use both a Magic Trackpad and a mouse on the same computer anymore. Scrolling options aren't separate and it infuriates me.
 
Not ready for GM though... There are some little bugs in Mission Control that little bit annoying. And one more thing: I can't access library on my user folder so I can't restore my Angry Birds save file :( but other than that, IT WAS AMAZING!! But really, Apple should fix some small bugs on there... Which are on Mission control, the most talked new feature in Lion by Apple which is ironic if it's buggy

How to summarize my feelings about the GM of Lion...

I would say it is very stable for a .0 release and good enough to ship.

You can't keep tweaking on it forever.

I have been testing since DP1 and I can say Apple has done a fine job of getting the OS ready to ship.
 
i rate this as unfinished job, looks like they have rushed to release this

its good, stable and fast in some way, but i got poor and less performance in other ways. It's not perfect like some blinded people are saying.

I have sure in 10.7.1 or 10.7.2 things will start to be nice and smooth, with optimized application for lion, supporting features and many new worth stuff.
 
Performance is pathetic. Can't play 1080p in iTunes and go to Mission Control, because it will lag as hell. RAM usaga goes up just by looking at the screen and not doing anything. I can hear HDD all the time doing something while i'm doing nothing. Most apps are slow to open. 'helpd' is a resource hog. Basically system becomes very slow after an hour or so just by looking at the screen and not doing anything.

So i get -1 for saying how it is on my system? Nice, pal ...

In the Finder menu go to GO and hold down Option on the keyboard then the Library folder will show.
 
So far: Worst upgrade in OSX history.

To bad that Apple is a cellphone company now :(
OSx was 5-7 years ahead of Windows.

Now with Windows7, OSX is only partly better. *crying* To bad that windows 8 is going crazy by trying make a desktop OS touch screen based.
 
I am very disappointed in Lion. It brings almost nothing and removes so much.

This update is not worth $30 should be free.

Aside from the stupid, oddball distribution mechanism and the ******** recovery partition installation scheme:

I like it more than I thought I would, based upon my relatively brief times screwing around with the betas. The elements from iOS are more gently integrated--Apple finally relented on forcing users to use application resume, backasswards gestures and such. However, I still don't quite understand what Apple wanted to achieve with Lion. Once I tuned the gestures to be more akin to the snow leopard ones (rather than the iPhone ones) and got everything customized I started liking it more I assumed I would. There are certainly loads of small bugs--it feels like a x.y.0 release. I have tried it on an i7 CPU with an Nvidia G330M GPU and a C2D machine with an ATI R2600. The ATI GPU seems to have a lot of glitches, but the NVIDIA one is as fast as 10.6 (at least).

It's good enough to ship. Been using it for the past 4 days on my main machine and the only bugs that I've encountered are very minor (e.g., brightness keyboard controls don't work). No panics, no app crashes, no broken functionality. For the vast majority of users, this is a solid release.

10.7.1 will no doubt ship within weeks of Lion's release and most of the minor niggles will be resolved.

You are so right.

I love OSX and there are some good features in lion, but:

Expose gone

highlighting apps by just clicking them in dock gone

program icons in finder gone. Now just text. Real hard to see what is an folder and what is an app.

No indication that the computer is "thinking". When you use search there is no indication if the search is finished or if it is active

Crazy CPU utilization. kernel_tast take 20-25% cpu time on an I7 2.66ghz

My fans are now running on high 24/7.

Shorter battery time.

Memory leakage. I have 8 gig. Use Safari, ical, iTunes, mail and the computer swaps over 500 meg! This is with a newly rebooted system.

rosetta gone. There is no reason for Apple to remove this except Steves stupid "elegant" mantra. Just like it was stupid to remove universal binaries.

launchpad is stupid
my beloved expose activated by touching corner in the computer is gone. Both show desktop and show individual program. Mission control is not as good.

stuff I miss from older versions:
I loved when SMS was linked to contact book. When somebody sent me an SMS to my phone it would show up on the mac, and I could reply to it by Bluetooth to the phone. This also gave me an SMS log that was synced with .mac.
 
Pretty fun that every single negative comment in this thread is voted down.

I hate fanboys.

Just start Safari with 10.7 and then start resource monitor.
Be amazed how the memory disappears.
When memory gone: computer start to swap.

Now: Check disk in performance monitor. You will see I/O 200-300/sec.

Now check CPU tab. You will see that System uses 30% of CPU time. This is the I/O. Kernel_task take 20%.

This is with a raid0 hard disk setup. I7 2.66 with 2 core 4 threads.
 
The days of Apple Computer are finished it's all about mobile devices these days.

Mission Control is backwards compared to Spaces and Expose. There is simply no way to work with minimised windows. What a joke.

Seriously how the hell can Apple charge for this update. Anything more than free is a rip off.
