Don't ask me why but I ended up with the following:

2 x 150GB RaptorsX in Stripped RAID with the OS installed but used as CS3 scratch. (Bay 1 and 2)

1 x 320GB WDC (WD3200AAKS) with the OS installed plus all my stuff migrated from my MBP. (bay 3)

1 x 500 WDC (WD5000AAKS) with the same stuff as the above 320HD (bay 4)

1 x external FW 250GB lacie almost full with images and junk.

I do CS3 and Aperture (I don't use Aperture that much yet but I will be incorporating it in the workflow as I get to understand it better)

My photo files in .psd and .tif are usually in the 150/250MB depending on the layers but I don't usually batch process hundreds of photos every day so: I have the feeling that The raided Raptors are somewhat overkill as my PS scratch since I'm not a power user and I'm not putting them to much use...

I'm now booting from the WD500GB.

Suggestions will be much appreciated.

By the way I have a 2.66 - 4GB

is a state of mind.
Sorry, but it sounds like kind of a mess! After a few migrations you need to re-organize everything (it sounds like you might have a few computer's worth of stuff on their). My strategy would be to define a good back scheme and go from there.

I would boot from one Raptor, use the other as a scratch disk, and use the 320GB as a data disk. I would then partition the 500GB drive and use it as a back-up for both the Raptor boot volume and the 320GB data drive. No need to back-up the scratch drive. I would set up something like SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner to do a nightly (or weekly) back-up. Lastly, I would use the external 320GB as an "off-site" back-up drive.

If your images/data are worth more than a weeks work then you'd better have a good back-up solution. Otherwise you can loose weeks of work and 1000s of dollars.

I'm only really here at night.
Agreed, but use 1 Raptor as a boot drive & the other as a scratch disk. Then duplicate the boot drive onto the 320GB internal AS A PRIMARY BACK-UP disk ONLY.

then use the 500GB as a storage disk for all your final, completed images/projects, and the external drive as a portable/off-site/secondary back-up.......

i would use the stripped raptors to boot up from and to store your apps on

I would use the 320 gb for scratch.

then i would use the 500 gb drive for data and i would buy one more 250 GB firewire drive to back up to. basically the data on the 500 gb drive would be backed up to the 2(two) 250GB firewire drives

good luck:)
