Yet he talks about using his iPod in the show...

So is this Real trying to muscle in on an iPod stronghold?

Mostly I thought it was funny to hear Howard doing the ad.(8/24/04) Real must have paid him a fortune to do the ad. I have a feeling that Real is getting VERY desperate. It may be the beginning of the end for Real. All along it has been WMP vs. RealPlayer. Now in comes iTunes and Real is about to go bankrupt.

Anyway Howard Stern did a Real.com ad for the 49 cent downloads.

LOL
you might be right, but these calls about the immediate demise of Real start to sound very similar to the ineffable "death of apple" announcements...

Saw a full-page ad for Harmony in a free paper called "City Pulse" here in East Lansing. The fine print states something along the lines of:

"... we think Apple is a pretty cool company and we wouldn't mind sitting down and having a beer with them in the future..."

Isn't this like offering to mow a guy's lawn after you've banged his daughter(s)?

i heard it this morning too, i was a bit surprised but then again he does commercials for different car insurance companies and diet pill products too. he probably doesn't know what's going on and probably doesn't care either.

Stern is a whore - he'll do anything for money. The man has no ethics - in fact, his advertising a product makes me less likely to buy it.

So if he advertised a G5 would you not buy it? ;)

Like him or not the fact is that Stern makes money and Real must really need money because anything Stern sells usually does good.

I'm not disputing Stern's marketability - he has certainly built an empire on sleeze. It saddens me that people buy into his lowest common denominator style of toilet humor, but you're absolutely right, he could sell bathrobes at a nudist convention.

I beg to differ.

You say "lowest common denominator toilet humor"...

I say "most interesting interviewer"...

If you listened to 2 of his shows straight through, not just the pieces Mr. Limbaugh...<cough> druggie <cough>...would have you hear. You would hear the things that most men and many women want to hear. The REAL questions he asks people are the reason he is so successful. If it were truly all "toilet humor" like you say, then it would have lasted about as long as Beavis and Butthead did. Potty jokes only go so far. Howard has been doing this since you were in diapers and it still sells.

You will undoubtedly mock me for this, but he may be the most interesting interviewer in the history of radio.

Or do you prefer the canned answer crap you hear on Letterman, or Today, or Meet the Press...these shows are more predictable than the outcome of a porno flick.

read "pr0n flick" for you geeks out there

Great interviewers don't torpedo themselves with toilet humor, and that's what Stern does. Even if you grant him good interviewing skills, he still undermines himself by acting like a ten year old.

C'mon Tom, you ever sit around with some of your old college buddies and wax poetic on the good ole' days....

...doesn't "toilet humor" get sprinkled into the conversation.

Stern's show often reflects what a typical male day consists of, or what one would consist of it he had access to midgets and strippers, like Howard does.

I listen when he gets serious with Artie about the fact that he should quit hitting the booze...I listen to lebian dial-a-date...I listen to his guests get interviewed about their latest movie AND their sexual experiences.

The mix of all these things is what keeps it interesting.

You don't JUST visit MacRumors do you? You also maybe visit CNN.com for some news. Or ESPN.com for your sports. Or even WindowsRumors.com (if one existed) just to get some perspective on things.

Don't just dismiss Stern as toilet jokes and immature. His best demographic is 18 to 32 year olds...hardly the grade schoolers on the playground

1) I can't stand Limbaugh, for the same reason I can't stand Stern. They both play to the lowest common denominator of their target audience. They are predictable and shallow.
2) I was doing radio interviews while Stern's mommy was still wiping his butt with Vaseline.

End of discussion.

Not much. Even in high school, I was one of the "weird" kids whose humor was always closer to David Letterman, Larry Gelbart and Dennis Miller (before the latter became a twit) than to Stern.
