My 2020 12.9” is getting me 8-10 hours of use. Random googling shows this to be around normal, while the 2018 model gets over 13 hours. Given that the soc is almost the same, as is the display, battery etc, I’m not sure why we see the reduced battery life. what are you guys getting?

It seems to be a noticeable difference from the 2018 11" Pro, which my wife uses throughout the day like I'm using the 2020 12.9" but it always ends up with more juice left. Strange.

Ok stupid question but wouldn't the 12.9 inch draw more battery because of the bigger screen? I mean does the bigger battery fully compensate for the bigger screen?

Also are both the same type (WIFI, cellular)? And are both set on the same brightness level and using similar apps? I mean some apps do use more battery than others.

not stupid at all! The 12.9 also has a bigger battery. Apple says 10 hours for both sizes I believe. According to random tech websites, the 2020 model gets poorer battery life by 30%. That’s comparing 12.9 to 12.9.

my comparison to my 2018 is just anecdotal, but they’re both Wi-Fi with similar usage. I perceive the 2018 to be amazing with battery, can’t seem to kill it in 1 day, while this 2020 needs charging every day like a phone.

How long have you had the 2020 iPad Pro? Initially they use a lot of battery downloading photo album and files, etc. the more data the longer it will take.

My first 2 weeks or so, my 12.9 was draining pretty fast, but things definitely settled. I used it last night on auto bright (probably hovering around 25% since the apartment is fairly dim at night) with my magic keyboard on and off alternating with handwritten notes while researching online and I went from 100–>84% in ~2.5 hours of continuous use. Obviously ramping up the brightness during the day when my apartment gets full sunlight would be harder on the battery, but pretty comparable to my 2018 11”

I’m getting 6-7 hours of usage with my iPad Pro 2020. Last charged Wednesday 08.19AM. This is less then my 4 year old iPad pro 9.7. I’m generally using safari, notability(for my research), Keynote and Affinity designer. Do you guys think is this normal? Or do I have to worry?

Mines been terrible and this is the replacement but I also noticed it’s improving now I’ve removed the Apple Pencil that was constantly connected so hoping to see better battery over next couple of days

It seems to be unanimous that the 2020 model has poorer battery life unfortunately. I think I’ll still keep it though, not worth getting a 2018 for only a few bucks less.

from where? Mine have been comparable between the two generations..

using the magic keyboard for text entry and typing and split screen YouTube I’ve been losing around 10% per 90 minutes of use.

Mines terrible. I’m getting about 5 hrs only…

should I return mine?

did you set up as new or restore from backup? Whats your brightness level? What tasks are you doing? Things like zoom and video calls will easily half the battery length.

Zoom's website claims that it doesn't eat significant battery. I call BS. I think it's about twice the normal rate.
