Hows your Clicker? MBA Trackpad Noise

Hey all.

How audible is your trackpad click on your new Air. Mine is actually driving me nuts, and I have had this for about all of 2 hours.

I am in a silent room w/ my wife on her MB and my trackpad is notifying us both from 10 ft away of my actions.

My previous Gen B was silent, unable to hear at all, this is "CLICK CLICK"
I can't make it a smoove register. <--- Yes with a v.

yes, too....clicky. try tap to click.

All of the glass trackpads are loud. Within the first 5 minutes I change to tap to click. Problem solved.

Not sure if it had to do with noise, but I prefer "tap to click" and it's one of the biggest reason I sold my past MBA vs a MBP. I absolutely love the glass trackpad and with tap to click turned on it's 100% silent as well.

I've had two (the first had a problem). The first was very stiff and loud. The second one is significantly less so, but still there is a very definite click.

oh yeah. it's the only real bad point about the new MBA.

It is so bad, it actually makes the trackpad feel like its build quality is worse than the rest of the machine.

Setup tap to click, hate it but I can get used to it. What the hell is the point of the trackpad if it is annoying to use? I.E. Click.

Honestly, I am a little pissed about this coupled w/the backlight- or lack thereof.

I am going to go check the store tomorrow and see the display's.

As much as I love/need/want the 4GB w/bigger drive then my sold rev B, I feel I have sacrificed, and I don't like that- especially for the price.

Sounds exactly the same as the one on my MBP. The only time I click it is by accident though. Tap to click is where it's at.

Does anyone know if the back of the new MBA's trackpad has the Y screw like the unibody MBP's? There are results showing that tightening this screw can eliminate the button noise by reducing the movement of the trackpad.

If so, I might take it in and ask a Genius to give it a 1/8 turn.

You may be right, however the pad is designed to click and I am trained to do so (over the years).

Tap to click is so lazy.

I've tried a few MBP's and there's certainly some variance how stiff the trackpad is to click and also how loud it is. Although the difference isn't that great, it's still noticeable how some trackpads are slightly quieter than others. The glass trackpad is great otherwise, but the clicking can be annoyingly audible.

It is a big deal actually, coming from the RevB style trackpad, with a silent button (and I do mean dead silent). This is new to me...

I know the tap to click is the only solution, but the reason for the thread is for other analysis.

It is loud. I'm a long-time clicker too and never thought I'd adjust to tapping. Now, though, I can't imagine doing it any other way. It's silent and fast.

I have to out a side note in here. I just had my first opportunity to use one of these trackpads. It was yet another thing I didn't care for on the 11 I sold. I actually think the 'simple' interface is cumbersome for long time users..I'm sure I would adapt, but as of now I much prefer the button. I had a lot of misclicks due to my muscle memory with alternatating systems for 19 years.

Tap to click is like keeping your cell on vibrate - everyone should do it - don't be a nuisance.

Could be just because my MBP is a Rev A and I'm used to the sound it makes, so the MBA seems quieter if anything. Also I only use clicking for dragging/highlighting.
