Exactly! I knew this would happen.

Apple was just using HP until they could get their retail outlets together.

Kinda like a whore. "Ooops, we don't need you anymore. Bye."

But really does this news really justify killing my AAPL? $1.48

HP have a digital media strategy?

*chuckle*

Ah, I think this is a good thing actually. iPods should come from Apple, and no one else. No more people who got the HP iPod because they thought Apple is not PC-compatible or something. Sheesh.

Precisely. Apple is now setup in Wal-Mart, Radio Shack and all of the other old HP iPod retail spots now, so HP's participation isn't needed any longer. It was getting kinda silly having the duplication of both Apple and HP models side by side at all of those stores anyway...

Probably changes still rippling through the company after they unwind some of the Carly Fiorina initiatives.

The new CEO seems to be doing something, don't know if it's a clear strategy yet -- or just an anti-Carly Fiorina strategy.

I just hope Apple does not loose out on sales locations liek CostCo and Target, and other mass market retailers.

I'm not sure about Costco, but Target sells Apple branded iPods anyway, and has for quite some time.

woah.. kind of a shocker (even tho we all knew this would happen eventually)
oh well.. i never liked the idea of an hp ipod anyways

If I had to guess this was Apple's decision not HP's...

It was (Apple):

"Apple has decided that reselling iPods does not fit within the company's current digital entertainment strategy," Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said. "As a result, HP plans to stop reselling iPods by end of this September."

I always wondered why they even bothered to sell iPods in the first place. HP probably loses money with every iPod sold since they run up higher costs associated with warranty and tech support.

Maybe some people just liked the blue color... White is so tiresome.

the HP Branded iPods are white, they just have an HP logo on the back instead of Apple, that was the only difference

"They've decided that reselling iPods doesn't fit with their company's current digital media strategy," the Journal quoted Apple spokeswoman Katie Cotton as saying.

Not sure if the link has changed, or was mis-quoted above, but it now reads:

"They've decided that reselling iPods doesn't fit with their company's current digital media strategy," the Journal quoted Apple spokeswoman Katie Cotton as saying.

Apparently this was HP's decision.

EDIT: Oops... beat to the punch.

According to C|Net, HP's consumer desktop and notebook systems will continue to ship with iTunes for Windows pre-installed for the foreseeable future, even though HP will no longer resell iPods themselves.

R.I.P. Apple iPod from HP. We will surely miss you!
