Well, it arrived.
So, interesting packaging. Haven't seen such an irregular box before.
Tablet looks great. Design is slightly different to the slew of plain black windows tablets but despite being well built and solid, the materials aren't quite up to scratch - the silver band around the device is in fact plastic, not aluminium and has sharp edges which while not a huge issue, don't exactly make for the most comfortable grip.
Screen seems sharp and bright. Blacks wash out at viewing angles less than straight on.
Mostly seems snappy but occasionally hangs - symptom of full W10 on a tablet?
Keyboard keys are great - just as good as a laptop and despite the odd size difference with the tablet docked, the extra keys are a worthwhile trade off. It also works with iOS devices - hadn't used a bluetooth keyboard with my iphone before but surprised to see brightness, volume and media control buttons also work.
Trackpad is dreadful. Top of keyboard is aluminium, bottom plastic with rubber slot for tablet and a fabric cover that has a loop for the pen.
Pen seems great - need to give it a proper go with notes though.
I really still haven't figured out how to seamlessly work with Windows in tablet mode yet. I'm typing this on my HP Pavilion 23. I use it purely as a desktop with keyboard and mouse. Can count on one hand the number of times I've felt compelled to raise my hand 6 inches to touch the screen.
I still feel that rather than create a unified OS for touch/desktop use, Windows is still very much a Jekyll and Hyde platform that is either completely illogical or too complex for my little mind to figure out. In desktop mode, W10 is great. Just a refinement of all the decent Windows versions before it.
Windows Phone from 7 upwards was also solid (despite lack of apps) bar a couple of quirks (in settings, the option to select lock screen image and theme colour used to be in separate sections). The W10 beta I've used on my Lumia 635 seems much better.
But with a tablet that you can use as both, do you download the desktop version of a program or the mobile/touch version? Or both? Office is a perfect example.
