Hi All,

I think this might predate sonoma and already a ventura issue. I usually use an old desktop for scanning but that died. Here my issue.
I can print without an issue (via wifi or ethernet). The HP MFP shows up under the print/scan menu correctly for printing. The driver is an Airprint 3.0 . BUT it doesn't recognize the scan function. I've tried to delete and add multiple times. It also does not appear in image capture or preview. I tried to find an HP driver (even HP easy scan) , but to no avail as it failed to install anything.

I'm stumped. Any thoughts? I vaguely remember this might have been an issue in the past. I checked the forums and found references but no solutions other than trying to find different drivers.

Thanks,
Philly

I had this issue in some prior version of MacOS, and while I was incredulous, this is what worked. Remove printer from MacOS Settings. Turn off printer. Unplug USB cable from printer (seriously). Turn printer on, wait for it to get to ready state. Plug USB cable back in. Then try to add the printer in MacOS.

Have the same problem with my Samsung printer/scanner. I manually downloaded the latest drivers of the HP/Samsung website which are for macOS 13 (there are no macOS 14 drivers yet). Printing continued to work but scanning still did not work as I got a message/error saying that the scanning driver "was not validated by Apple" yet or something and thus macOS prevented it from running.

Edit: This is also my first Mac so I don't know if it worked or would work on macOS 13.

Thank you for the feedback. Sorry it took me a bit to get back to the post. Real life stuff got in the way ;-) ! I'll try in the next couple of days. I'm pretty sure that I have it connected to the ethernet port. But you know what? I can unplug etc.

I'm getting more and more annoyed by basic stuff that used to work and now doesn't . They reinvent the system prefs. The old ones worked perfectly well. Now I need to use search to find what I'm looking for and stuff doesn't work.

Sorry it has been a week and this is just the type of stuff we used to be able to avoid with apple. The reason we use apple. Let us be clear this is APPLE and NOT HP. Apple said we will provide the drivers so we can wirelessly print/scan. It used to work and now??? Not anymore.

Ah well, I'm just in a mood,
Ignore me.
But thank you for feedback I'll try your suggestions adn thank you for your time on my behalf.

Have you resolved the issue? On my own m1 Air everything still works on Sonoma, but the work m2 Air is PITA... VueScan sees the scanner, HP Smart sees the scanner, but it only worked with Image Capture after the 14.2.1 update for a short while, not before that nor after. So, it's gotta be a bug within the scanning daemon/Image Capture app.

No and there doesn't seem to be a fix. I worked with higher level Apple techs and they in the end blamed HP. I've explained multiple times that since through AirPrint more or less Apple provides drivers it is on their end.

We can't be the only ones. I assume most people give up and just use their phones to "scan" but since I like to bulk scan documents it is a pain.. I still have an old intel MacBook Air and have defaulted to using it.
