I have seen a few threads that cover some of my questions but wanted to try and cover everything in one thread. Sorry if some of these are duplicate. I am sure this is a newb issue.

I just got an HP Microserver with the intent of it being my central media machine. I loaded Windows Home Server 2011 on it and everything seemed ok at first. I am having problems importing m4v files. I can import videos that were originally converted to mp4 though. Even if I rename the m4v files to mp4, it still does not work.
My goal is to stream my videos to all my devices. Everything in my house is Apple (ATV, iPADs, iPhones, multiple Mac computers)

1. What am I doing wrong?
2. Is there a better way to accomplish my goal?
3. Any other recommendations?

I just got the HP MicroServer too, but haven't set it up yet (no time).

I think you're having issues because the m4v might have some different settings in there that is incompatible with iTunes. You might need to unwrap the m4v and remux it back to .mp4. I don't think just renaming the extension will help you with the issue.

Hopefully by the time I set it up a JB will be available for the ATV3. I have way too many XviD files that I converted my DVD's into back in the day with AC3, so it will take forever to convert these to MP4 and I don't want to lose quality.
