I installed this and now I cannot print from Safari anymore. I get a Safari crash in the HP print settings plugin every time.

Anyone else seen this?

Anyway to back this update out?

If you haven't applied the update, you might want to wait until more reports come in about it.

UPDATE: it crashes in any app actually. If I try and print from Preview I get the same plugin crash. Only for my Laser color printer though. An inkjet printer works both are HP).

I'm crashing too

I installed the HP Printer update and I too am crashing in every single app!
I'm going to uninstall and re-install the printers that I am using to see if that fixes it.
Any help is appreciated!

It happened to me too!

Re-install Mountain Lion from Recovery disk did not help. However, restore the hp printer folder in Library/Printers/ from Time Machine solved the problem. Do remember to Repair Disk Permissions after restoring from Time Machine.

I tied to print today and got an error message saying that the update was installed incorrectly and did I want it repaired. I allowed this and it did a quick permissions repair and now printing seems to be OK.

Remove this file to trash:
/Library/Printers/hp/PDEs/hpPostScriptPDE.plugin

I had same problem and someone suggested this in Apple forum and it solved the problem.

I had same problem and someone suggested this in Apple forum and it solved the problem.

I came across this post while I was on the phone with Apple support. I was passed around a few times because they thought it was related to my HP LaserJet 1200 being connected to my AirPort but that was a red herring. As soon as I deleted this file the problem went away.

I continued helping Apple troubleshoot this by deleting and re-adding printers, and by resetting the printing system. Each time I added the printer I was informed some parts of the installation were missing and it asked if it should download and install. I did, and the file reappeared, and so did the crashing. Deleting the file fixed it, again. The tech said he'd pass this along to their engineering people so presumably they'll work with HP to find out what happened.

Thanks again for posting this fix.

Is anyone else finding the printing of PDFs on their HP printer is suddenly excruciatingly slow?

Can't see /Library/Printers/hp/PDEs/hpPostScriptPDE.plugin

I've also had the application crash problem (running 10.8, latest HP drivers, HP 1320n).

Tried to find the file to delete (/Library/Printers/hp/PDEs/hpPostScriptPDE.plugin) but cannot find it in folder structure.

Only subfolders inside /library/printers/ are the two named printers. I access /library folder using the OPTION-VIEW trick. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks in advance!

-prc.

prc87,

Got to:

/Library/Printers/hp/PDEs/

Not:

~/Library/Printers/

S-

I tried to, but their was no .../hp/PDEs/ folder that i could see. Just the two printer packages within /Library/Printers/

(By the way, I presume the full folder is MacIntosh HD/Users/peterc/Library/Printers/...???

----------

Just realised their are TWO /Library/Printers folders....one under my username and one directly under the harddisk root. Found the correct folder now, deleted the file and printing works again :) :)

Come on...there are NOT two "/Library/Printers" folders!!

When someone starts a path with "/", that means the root directory. Not the root directory for the user account....

HP Update 2.1 Work-Around Is Partially Successful

Following suggestion to remove the hpPostScriptPDE.plugin, I was able to print with my HP LaserJet P2015dn. There is still a problem with the Apple Store Update. I continue to receive notification that a software update, namely the HP 2.1 update, is available.

Ultimately, it seems that the new HP update problem with OS 10.8 and LaserJet printers will have to be resolved by Apple and HP. From what I recall from past problems involving HP, HP engineers in the "what matters to HP and Apple" department are slow!! A new HP Update 2.6 (intended advance dating) may take several months.

Not a Mountain Lion issue

The solution of moving the .plugin file to the trash works for me.

However, this is *not* a Mountain Lion issue, it's an HP update bug.

I applied the update from HP while using Lion and everything started crashing on the HP printer.
