Is it an Air? Or a Pro? Really just a shameless copy of both. A least we know why they call it HP Envy. :D

That is one of many laptops that are blatant copies of Apple's designs. It's a complete joke at this point. But shame on Apple for trying to use legal measures against any of them to protect their unique designs. :rolleyes:

Well as far as I know Apple hasn't sued anyone over laptop designs.
 
This is definitely a candidate for a lawsuit. This is why Microsoft should make a VaporMg Surface Book. You know it won't look anything like a Macbook and at the same time have a premium look & feel.

What's VaporMg? Is that some marketing term like Retina?
 
Every manufacturer copies off the competition a little bit here and there, not a big deal really.

But unless HP is really dense, I would assume they had a team of lawyers assembled and on standby before even announcing this one.

I think you're right. That's not to say that they don't have grounds to do so. I've seen numerous designs from other manufacturers that look just like this HP...a cheap, blatant copy of the MBP. Its weird how so many companies went from making plastic, ultra glossy, ultra shiny, huge, multi colored laptops...to THIS...silver body, thin profile, black keyboard with keys spaced out and slightly recessed into the body. BUT there are enough small differentiators (little logos here and there, slightly different trackpads, etc.) that they can claim they weren't outright copying Apple. My eyes can't roll enough when I see companies trying to pass off designs like this as their own.
 
Nah, this is not the worst copy I've seen, at least it doesn't use Apple's Inverted-T navigation keys.

The real thing is in the pudding (trackpad) and nobody Wintel yet seems to be able to make a decent trackpad regardless how it looks.

At least it doesn't have that God-awful off-center touch pad.

ENVY? that's reason enough not to get one. Who comes up with these stupid names?
 
Innovation does not occur without inspiration. And since pretty much most laptops from Chromebooks to Macbooks are thin, silver and have black keyboards, I'd say it wasn't just HP who are 'copying'. OP, you appear to have quite some opinions on the quality of this product and yet I somehow doubt you've owned one.

That aside, I have the HP Envy x2. You can take the screen off and use it as a tablet. Fantastic product. Would be nice if Apple were to make a hybrid laptop/tablet. But then they'd need to make a hybrid OS for it like Windows 8.

But I'll say it again. Innovation does not occur without inspiration. And believe me, Apple have certainly taken their share of inspiration off others over time.
 
Yeah Walmart makes knock-off stuff too.......I don't get why Apple even sues anyone. Does being #2 most valuable in the world hurt that bad?

Not as bad as the Acer Aspire R7. No palm rest and track pad above the keyboard. Who the hell designed this and did they actually use it before they mass produced it? :eek:

Sad think is some tech sites are giving Acer props for trying something different. That's the problem with Windows OEM's right now. Throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Thank God Apple leaves most of this stuff in the lab.

I dunno if that's an incredibly good idea, or an amazingly bad one. Either way, it's at least an attempt at solving the issue of gorilla arm.

So just so this is clear... you criticise tech companies for copying Apple and now criticize them when they try something new and different? I think your fanboyism is showing a little here. Although, the position of the trackpad is certainly questionable, I'll reserve judgement until I've actually used one.

I am. Its great having the flexibility of having both a tablet and laptop in one device. Just slap it into its keyboard and launch a desktop app and you have a laptop. Lift it out and launch a metro app and you have a tablet. Two devices in one. Saved me a lot of money and it can do a hell of a lot more than an iPad can with it having a full OS on it.

Not at all. Lenovo makes great laptops that aren't carbon copies of MacBooks. The new Razer gaming laptop is super sleek but not a copy of Apple. It is possible to NOT copy Apple without creating silly designs all in the name of appearing different just for the sake of it.

But Acer isn't doing it just to be different... that's a functional design. :|
 
I think it's quite amusing because when the unibody MacBook and MacBook Pros were announced back in 2008, there were loads of complaints that they looked just like HP laptops because of the gloss screen and black bezel. :)
 
That Acer Aspire looks pretty neat to me, actually. I like it a lot. The only time I don't have a mouse plugged into my laptops is if I'm somewhere with awkward ergonomics like the couch, and the above keyboard thing works fine for that. I also don't like having to worry about whether my hands are resting on the touchpad, and this takes care of that problem.

The placement also encourages use of the touchscreen, as well. Since your hand is right there and all.(I'm assuming it has a touchscreen, haven't looked at the spec page).

Admittedly, I've got some different ergonomic concerns than most, having broken both wrists and sprained them each through a multitude of sports injuries. Along with tendinitis, and a carpal tunnel scare. From all of that, I NEVER just reach my thumb back to use a touchpad, I move my entire hand. And having it above the keyboard is just as much movement as moving my hand to the side for a mouse or below for a conventionally placed touchpad.

edit: I hope they build a desktop dispay with that hinge though, I really like the mounting options. Hopefully before I get off my butt and make myself something similar for my desktop monitors, I've wanted to for a long time.

And the fact that the chicklet keyboard was a direct copy off of Sony.
People tend to have short memories.
