So i did that, but now whenever i open them it comes up on the desktop agian.

Did you copy the .dmg file or drag-n-drop the application to the folder?

Make sure you "eject" the virtual drive that is created when double-clicking the .dmg file, and also delete the .dmg file. After copying the application out of the "drive" of course.

That should fix it.

The way Macs handle .dmg files is definitely stupid. If you drag the .dmg into the trash, it should unmount the virtual drive. Also, why do so many apps download as .dmg files when there's only one file in the disk image? Why not just download the file directly, or use a .zip file if it needs to be compressed?

This thread has instructions on how to stop page navigation with the trackpad in FireFox ;)

Apps download as .dmg files because in OS X, a single app is not a single file. That's just how the interface displays it. Ctrl-click on an app and click "Show package contents" to see what I mean. ZIPping the file isn't as reliable as creating a disk image.

Good to know. I didn't know that. But still, dragging a .dmg to the trash should automatically unmount the disk image.

Hmm. Okay, one thought here. Did you originally open the application directly from the virtual drive? If so, did you use that icon in the Dock and subsequently access the application via that icon? If so, remove that icon and replace it with the one in your Applications folder.

If not, then, well, I'm at a loss. Except perhaps to start from scratch - delete the files and re-download and install and see if you get the same problem.

You can setup the mouse, I think on powerbooks, to make it to where if you move it a certain way it executes a command. I think you set it up in your System Preferences or in the FireFox preferences. Try that.

Well, probably not bannable, but 2 hours for a non-fatal issue might be a little quick on the draw for the bump. What happened between you fixing the problem and apparently having the problem again?

Why not use Safari?
