I want to install HSierra on an SSD and then place it in my mid2010 27" iMac so that it will be ready to boot.
Can i prepare that SSD, using my MBPro, make it ready with the OS installed so I can just mount in my iMac and be ready to boot/run... can this be done?

Yes, as long as the macOS operating system is compatible with both machines, you can generally move a drive from one machine and boot from it on another.

You would have to boot into an older or the same OS that you are trying to install (if your Mac supports it). The easiest method may be to use the “createinstallmedia” tool to create a bootable installer, then boot using that and install to your target drive (being careful to protect your main OS drive).
