http://gizmodo.com/5511859/htc-evo-coming-to-sprint-in-june-4g-service-to-cost-10+20-extra-per-month

I don't know about you guys but I am getting extremely bored with my iPhone. This is my 3rd iteration, (owned 2.5g 3g 3gs) and it feels like the same phone I had back in 2007. With the exceptions of some very minor bumps in hardware, and some admittedly great strides in software this is a 3 year old phone. I'm getting over it.

If Apple doesn't get on stage tomm and announce something innovative for iPhone 4.0 then I'm getting this baby.

htc-hd2-vs-iphone1.jpg

*4g wi max
*Android 2.1
*Big amazing screen
*expandable memory
*8 megapixel camera

*4g hot spot for my ipad/laptop negating my need for the 3g iPad, and possibly cable modem at home.

On top of all that my family would save over $100 per month on the phone bill over AT&T. That is before my 15% corporate discount gets taken off.

I'm really hoping for a totally fresh take, and some major hardware revisions, otherwise my apps can live on through my ipad, and I'm sitting it out until the iPhone gets the total make over that it deserves.

Anybody else tempted by the Dark side?

i hope the EVO is a bomb ass phone but for some reason I feel like it'll be lame... that or have a 5 minute battery life.

Yea that's an HTC HD2, it runs old version of Windows mobile, you don't want that phone. I recently went through the same feelings though and purchased a nexus one (android os) and am glad I did I could never go back to iPhone after using the nexus. The evo is looking to be even nicer than the nexus so I don't think you will be disappointed.

P.s. You can make any android phone a mobile hotspot, look up android wireless tether. It's very simple I have been using it with the iPad with great success.

why? I thought the nexus one was pretty lame

No way lol I can do so much more with the nexus than I could ever do with my iPhone. Pretty much all my friends that use iPhone have switched to nexus after they had a chance to play with mine as well It really makes the iPhone seem old and outdated. Put it this way my iPhones been sitting in the desk drawer and hasn't come out ever since I got the nexus :D

As a Spint user who won't switch carriers, if they don't get the iPhone I'll be getting an EVO if they offer free tethering (Verizon is offer free mobile wifi tethering on their phones now, I think Sprint has to match that to be competitive) otherwise I will just stick with my Pre with unofficial tethering and maybe a new extended battery for another couple years. :p

the phone in the pic is HTC HD2 not EVO

But i agree that today apple must bring something magical :p

Shoot you're right. They are almost indistinguishable.

Check out this video and tell me that you are not intrigued.

I'm in lust. I'm also in a wimax area so I am doubly intrigued.

Thanks for the tip on tethering with android. I hadn't played with one since the G1, and had written them off as a crude copy of the iPhone. My how it has grown since.

Since picking up a Sprint Overdrive mifi unit on Monday I've been impressed with Sprints coverage over ATT for sure. The Evo phone is one of the first Android phones to make me think twice about what to use. I don't really have any voice service complaints in my area but data...another story.

Sprints OD mifi unit has been fairly impressive so far showing 700kbps to 1,3mb dl speeds at my house and work. AT&T show ZERO bars of 3G coverage at both of these locations. 4G is headed to KC in June which is likely when the Evo ships. I guess it will depend what the iPhone 4.0 brings to the table and what the next gen iPhone has to offer.

The Sprint mifi unit offers me very good 3G coverage, GPS, and access to a 16gig mini SD card that makes the iPad 3G a non issue. Sprint offering 4G service and devices like the Evo and the Overdrive mifi make it rather tempting to bail on ATT.

I switched from Sprint to ATT 3 years ago because their 3G speed and the iphone, I got my iphone 3GS and I love the download speed I was getting, but the plan was killing me, I switched back to Sprint. 2 weeks ago and got the HTC HERO download speed improved I get 2mbps downloads and 1.7mbps uploads here in my area, and there no 4G here. I will be getting the EVO for sure, it will be a great companion for the ipad.

I believe if you have the unlimited plan 4G thetering should be available for free, if not just root the phone and install free wifi apps

1. You accidentally posted this in the iPad forum, not the iPhone forum :)

2. I agree the iPhone is out of date in terms of usability and features. There are several very good smart phones coming out such as the EVO, HD2, and Xperia X10. I'm going to upgrade soon but I'm waiting to see what the next iPhone will be...if it's like clockwork it will be announced in a few months.

Unless the iPhone turns out something very cool, I'm definitely planning on going with the Evo. 4G, front facing cam, very tempting. I'm hoping Sprint does their $99 simply everything plan and includes 4G tethering. Now that's killer

Same with me. Unless the next iPhone is a true leap forward I'm ditching it for the evo this summer. On top of what you mention it also shoots 720p video.
