HTC One delayed in US until Mid April

That's only a month away - while disappointing, its not like its a huge delay at this point.

While I agree with maflynn that it's not that bad for the actual buyers, this is devastating for HTC.

You've now backed your launch up against the launch of the S4, so there may be tons of customers that would've gone with the One that will now wait for the S4 and make an informed decision between the two.

Basically, HTC is going to lose the impulse customers because of this. Awful move by HTC.

Much rather the wait/delay, than the release of a sub-par product....

That said, I'm not eligible for upgrade until September, so I'll be spending plenty of time making an informed decision! The HTC One though is my leader in the clubhouse....just need to see what Google/Motorola can come up with.

Oh, I completely agree with you. While the delay sucks, if they're ironing out bugs then it's worth it.

There's going to be a lot of thinking going on over the course of this year, especially if you're using an upgrade to get your next phone (since you're locked in for 2 years). My upgrade isn't until October/November, but I've got to where I'm buying off-contract (most of the time second-hand at that). What I'm planning to do, since I'm so enamored with the idea of a removable battery and expandable storage on my S3, is probably pick up the S4 around June (after the user reviews are in). Then, I'll save my upgrade to see what the next iPhone/iOS brings to the table. If I like what I see, I'll use my upgrade to get the iPhone. If not, then I'll just sit on it until I want to burn it on something else.

I'll also have my eye on the next Nexus device. I now have LTE in my area, though, so if it doesn't take advantage of that (and I won't be surprised if it doesn't), then I'll probably pass on that too.

Didn't the HTC One X get delayed too or something? Didn't that hurt them big time last year too?

I could be wrong.

Anyway, this does not bode well for people on the fence about the device, or for people who have serious reservations about HTC's reliability.

Faith... it is a fragile thing when it comes to HTC.

Well I'm bummed. I was really looking forward to the phone but if its so close to the Samsung launch I might as well wait and explore my options. Samsung's unnatural amoled colors turned me off on the original Note but it looks like Amoled technology has improved a bit.

Another botched release. It's no wonder why Samsung and Apple are the only ones turning a profit in this market.

So far (since last year) we've had the following blunders:
- HTC One X delayed
- Nexus 4 MIA for 3+ months
- HTC Droid DNA released and obselete
- Sony XZ sold out and not even released to the US (grrrrr...)
- HTC One delayed

While LG is over there cloning the GS3 and Note 2, IMO this puts consumers off. Like a couple posts before, I think HTC could have struck gold w/ its release prior to the GS4. But w/ all the marketing and fanbase of the Samsung Galaxy line, I think they missed their chance.

I'll argue it again, these companies need to take a few cues from Samsung and Apple: 1) release a true global phone or at least variants that can operate on most networks (only 2 flagship phones accomplish this, iPhone and Galaxy S; 2) get your launch straight :mad:; 3) name branding (seriously w/ the One, Xperia Z, Optimus G Pro?!); 4) public awareness (Sony's doing a good job w/ exposure and I know I've seen non stop Droid DNA/Verizon commercials, but I know the only reason I'm relatively aware of the other flagship phones is b/c its my own personal interest).

When is the S4 seeing a US launch? The only thing HTC has going for it is releasing it before the S4!

Bad news for HTC (as it backs up against the GS4 launch) but good news for anyone on the fence. As carriers generally only offer a 14 return period, this may allow you to test drive the One and if it doesn't work for you, can easily switch it out for a GS4.

I'm really curious to test the One out so I'm a bit bummed by the delay but not a big deal. Don't have any interest in the GS4.

May be they are figuring out how to add the ability to give the user an option to turn off blinkfeed :)

I for one will patiently wait, even though I just upgraded from the One X to the One X plus less than a month ago. The build quality is synonymous with the iPhone so you know you're going to get a premium, well crafted device. Maybe it's just my perception but I think people only settle for the galaxy line because of lack of other high premium devices available via they're carrier and also because they're so readily available. Hell you can even get a GS3 with cricket wireless and that's saying something.

Now that HTC is taking a more global approach with their flagship device, we'll finally start to see them reclaim their legacy as android's premium oem of choice.

You can get an iPhone on Straight-Talk from Walmart and Cricket. What does that have to do with anything?

Is the One more 'high-end' and 'premium' than an iPhone because it's sold on less carriers?

It shows their poor business decisions because they aren't trying to sell on every carrier.

The One is going to be available on more carriers than the previous One X so the numbers will reflect better against the GS4. As far as premium devices go I'd say it's on par with the iPhone. Both are better options than the GS4 in my opinion.

So what you're saying is that because the S3 was available on most every carrier, it is considered a "cheap" phone, but the iPhone is also sold on cricket, but it's fine because it is "premium?"

Why are you so interested in this thread? I have no interest in the S4 - personal taste - and while I read the S4 threads I have not posted in them recently since I know I won't be getting one.

You, however, have made clear your preferences of late so why do you persist in threadcrapping?

Samsung is cheap for offering the phone on every carrier, but Apple gets a free pass because the iPhone is made from metal. What sort of hypocrisy is that?

and just fyi, I've probably owned more HTC, Sammy, and Apple devices than most people here, so it's not like I'm some leghumper. I have enough experience with these companies to have a preference now.

No, I'm saying it's cheap because of the quality of the materials used. It being on Cricket just lends proof to it being readily available to the general public, hence to why it's always an option as opposed to HTC's flagship device

To be perfectly honest I'm really not concerned with the iPhone . I'm more concerned with how the android heavyweights stack up against each other.
