Okay so I am realitively new to android. Preordering the 64gb HTC One soon but I had a question. What are the perks of buying the Developers unlocked phone other than the phone being off contract and unlocked? I've only had the S3 for about a month and a half and haven't rooted it or anything so all of this is new to me.

Can the phone do a lot more? More customizable? Is it mainly a perk because of the unlocked aspect?

Any help would be much appreciated.

The perks would be it's sim unlocked, bootloader unlocked, no carrier bloatware, no carrier branding, and faster updates.

Woah, you can order the 32GB non-developer but still carrier-free version for less, too. That's very interesting.

What's the benefit of developer's edition besides the additional 32gb (which is really worth it, actually) and unlocked bootloader, etc?

This sounds very good! I am much inclined to order the 32 GB or 64 GB Deverloper's edition and give it a run on Tmobile.

Can someone confirm whether the unlocked and/or developer's editions will for sure get LTE on Tmobile? I keep hearing/reading different things.

HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz - GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz - LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz (US)

That includes Tmobile's refarmed HSPA+ and LTE, right?

Just that, unlocked bootloader. Which means ability to flash rom/kernels from the start. The 32GB is only sim unlocked, nothing else. You will need to wait for devs to unlock the phone before you're able to do anything as far as flashing roms, etc.

I figured it was worth it for more dev support, plus an extra 32GB storage for $70 difference.

Yeah, if I upgrade it'll be for the extra 32gb more than anything. I'm not much of a flasher. Is it easy to flash ROMs on a Mac? I don't have any access to a Windows PC and I always only find instructions to flash on Windows.

Also, I'm just scared of messing up.

With the nice return policy they have (wish it was 30 days instead of 14 days, though) I'm very tempted to preorder.

Dev edition should work with TMO's refarmed (i.e. 1900MHz) HSPA network and LTE network.

It looks like its missing the 1700/2100 MHz band for T-mobile's AWS HSPA though. This is what scares me as I want to switch carriers also.

I will give you the short version. S-Off is basically just "security off" if you will. With an encrypted bootloader, you cannot change the setting from S-On to S-off, without first cracking the bootloader. An unlockable bootloader allows you easy access to changing the S-On setting to S-Off.

I see. Thanks. That made sense.

So what does s off do? Allows you to do something I assume? Flash roms? Root?

I would caution you not to buy a phone with the expectation that you will mod it into something you will like. It will be setting yourself up for failure. If you don't like the phone itself, it's probably a better idea not to get it. Relying on devs to provide mods can lead to a bit of frustration later down the line.

Yeah. I can see that happening.

Luckily, if worse comes to worse, there is a 14-day return window. I really want to give HTC a chance and the value (64 gb compared to 16 gb for an unlocked iPhone at the same price!) and their $100 dollar trade-in promotion really made it easier.

The 14 days will also bring me up to the S4 launch so I can compare both devices in hand, even if it just means going to the store to try out a live S4 unit.

Is there anyway to get the 64gb in black? I don't see that option anywhere on the HTC site
