HTC’s last attempt at a flagship phablet left us pretty dissatisfied, but it looks like the company may try again this year with a super-sized version of the One (M8). According to a new report from Chinese site MyDrivers, the One (M8) Max will offer high-end hardware and a premium design to match.

Rumors of a One (M8) Prime first started to leak out back in May, but now it looks like the company is finally getting ready to launch the new phablet. The device allegedly comes equipped with a 5.5-inch 2K display, a Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7GHz, 3GB of RAM and runs Android with HTC’s new updated Sense 6.5 software on top. The M8 Max may also feature an aluminum and ceramic design, while earlier reports claimed it could be the company’s first waterproof flagship phone.

Why not just called it HTC One (X8)? I don't love the naming structure, but that just seems more sensible than HTC One M8 Max.

HTC are my favorite android phones, but I really dislike iterations of Android flagships since they tend to be half baked and I'd rather wait for the M9 in Feb/March of next year over this.

The last max was 5.9 inches, it can't be 5.5 inches

Why? The 5.9" wasn't a big seller, so they could definitely try a slightly smaller screen to se if that would work. The screen doesn't have to get bigger with every generation, the has been 5.7" now 2 years in a row.
