Is anyone picking one of these up? The off-contract price is $429. I really am tempted. I was thinking about getting the moto x, but at $429 this could easily hold me over until the new nexus.

If you're planning on getting the new Nexus, you're only looking at about 3 months until it's likely release--worth spending that much for 3 months? Of course you can sell it but I don't anticipate a strong resale market for these. Also, aren't you using a Nexus 4 currently?

If it came down to only the Moto X or the One Mini at off contract pricing, then yes, it would certainly be enticing. Heck, both may even be cheaper by that point in time.

If I was in your shoes, I'd pass on both the Moto X or One Mini and wait to see what the new Nexus brings. If it fails to impress, you still can always pick on of these up.

Very true. I am currently using the nexus 4. My biggest problem with it right now is the display. The digitizer is very noticeable in the light to the point I really cannot use the phone outside. I have adjusted to it, but $429 is not bad at all :)

imagine being able to see only that pattern when in the sunlight. It was my 3rd one in a row with that problem

$429 is a very fair price for this phone IMO off-contract. It only has 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. So you need to keep that in mind. Also isn't the next Nexus coming in October? Can't you just wait at this point?

Last year was mid November so maybe then.

Wait a little and pick up the Moto X. There will be a price drop soon. I thought they will sell any considerable amount at $199

I just went and played with the Moto X and the HTC One Mini. When you really see in person how small the Moto X is considering how big the screen is its really impressive. The X is not much bigger than my iPhone 5 but you get so much more screen real estate. It feels great in the hand and Android runs amazingly well on the device. The HTC One Mini reminds me a lot of the iPhone 5. It's thin and tall. IMO it feels better in the hand than the iPhone 5 due to the rounded back. I didn't notice any stuttering in my short time using it. I only spent about 20 minutes with each phone so I can't give a review but my first impression of both is positive.

But he's looking for a phone to hold him over for 3 months. The Moto X is more expensive off-contract than the Mini.

Yea and no. If either phone is good enough I would probably use it longer. I'll have to cruise over to att and play around with them both. I just want to hear hands on experience if someone picks it up.

Ah okay. Well I don't hold too much stock in any one single review for anything but the one for the Mini on the Verge was pretty down on the device.

And Apple "cant" make a larger iPhone....... Apps! Screen resolution!...... Uh, yea.

They are milking the Apple fanboys on that "old" design until?

Ill bet when they DO come out with a larger phone, it will only be a little bigger, not as big as the One or the S4. That way they can milk the fanboys for ANOTHER few years. THEN they will make a Phone the same size as the S4 and One. Sad.

They keep selling, because they keep buyin'!

Man I LOVE my HTC one!

BTW I used to be a Fanboy (and still am in the PC world!).

Their software is great.. So they are not milking anyone b.c they have a smaller phone. I wish I could get a premium Android phone that size.

I just recieved one today for review purposes.

Initial impressions:

- The design is still top notch, I love how it's basically identical to the HTC One.
- The speakers are still amazing. I can't believe the sound quality that gets pushed out through them.
- The screen is still great, even though it's not 1080p. I can tell a difference between 1080p and 720p, but most people probably wouldn't notice.
- I enjoy the form factor more on the Mini. It fits in my hand easier, but I enjoy the bigger display more on the regular one.

That's about it for now... I'll come back and post my final thoughts after I have played around with the phone for a week or so.

Thanks for the update. I played with one in store and the only place I notice slight lag was using the pull down to go to settings.

Does the mini have an RGB notification light or just RG like most, if not all, other HTC phones?

Just red and green. Haven't seen a blue notification light.

It's very fast. I don't notice any lag while accessing the notifications. I haven't seen lag anywhere, actually!

Well after using it for a week I have my final thoughts.

-It's really great. Seriously, it's everything the HTC One is... just smaller.
-The speakers are just amazing. I still can't believe the clarity that comes from them.
-The screen, even though it's 720p, is excellent. Viewing angles are superb.
-Performance: top-notch. Never experienced lag, and 1GB of RAM seemed plenty.

I would definitely buy this phone if I wasn't into iOS.

Would I buy this over the larger HTC One? Probably not. I would rather have the 4.8" 1080p screen, but the Mini is a fantastic phone for only $99 on contract.

^ One/GS4 are also $99 on contract these days. Makes the HTC One Mini and Moto X useless devices.

iOS is more resolution dependent than Android.
