My iPhone 3GS is getting to the stage where it is too slow to use, was thinking of a 5S but the price is just unjustifiable for me currently and I'm pretty bored of iOS (although perhaps iOS7 might help...) was thinking of a move to HTC.

I work for one of the big carriers here in the UK and have a staff discount so I don't need to worry about the cost of minutes/data/etc. The only cost to me is the handset (at normal retail price). This means that cheaper handsets make a huge difference to what I end up paying relatively speaking. iPhones have a very high handset cost, whereas the HTC One is cheaper and the One Mini cheaper still so I'm favouring the mini. I'm not looking to splash out on a luxury device, just to get a more effective phone for my cash.

If I went for the mini, what would I miss compared to the One? I know it's slower, but they should both wipe the floor with my 3GS right?

The HTC One is going to offer a larger screen, and that led my purchase (along with my wife and son buying one as well). I went out to dinner with my parents this weekend, and my mother bought the One the following day. She liked it's larger display.

The One is a very fast device, and the screen size and display quality are excellent. The One Mini will leave you squinting a bit, but would be easier to hold. None of us has a problem holding the full size One, however.

The One Mini lacks the 1080p screen, quad core Snapdragon 600, NFC and Optical Image Stabilisation on the Camera if the top if my head.

Sense UI is said to run beautifully on the One Mini however so if none of the above bothers you that much it should be fine.

I'd hope to think it would trounce the 3gs easily given the differences in age. I had a Galaxy Mega which has the same CPU (Snapdragon 400) and it preformed fine, even with the blasted mess that is Touchwiz.

With the Nexus 5 due though I would wait as that could be a great value handset if Google follow similar prices with the N4.

I'd gladly own a One Mini either way, looks to be a nice handset.

It's tough to make a comparison - I think the 3GS stopped receiving IOS updates around the time you were able to select a wallpaper for your home screen.

Not quite that long ago. It stopped being updated when iOS7 was launched.

Thanks for the reminder about the Nexus, just been released and looks like it might be available for me to order from tomorrow! Should be cheaper than the mini too...
