What were they thinking, that consumers would abandon the latest technology for a Facebook button is madness...

Different phones for different needs. You'll notice the Status isn't the only phone they make.

Madness is not taking any action or risks with new products.

Abandon the latest technology? Some how that seems a bit off the mark.

I don't use Facebook, yet I wouldn't condemn this phone. It's quite obvious why they are offering it in this configuration. Facebook has legions of hard core fans.

You misunderstood the purpose of the product. It's not for you, it's for others who have a life that's so consumed with facebook that they need a dedicated button for it.

For people that want a high end smartphone, HTC offers the HTC Sensation (and soon the HTC holiday)

Exactly. For those that are Facebook addicts, this will be exactly what they need to get their Facebook fix...until it wears off and they need another fix. That's where this phone comes in again. Think of it like the dealer to these addicts :D

HTC have a large enough portfolio for people to get a different model. They aren't forcing the thing down people's throats so what is the problem?

The HTC ChaCha and HTC Status (along with the Motorola Charm, Samsung Galaxy Pro and others) is a huge step forward in making some people around here realise that Android (software) did not "change form factors" to copy the iPhone (hardware) between its prototype and its current state. :D

Android Prototype :

HTC Status :

See people, Android has not changed "form factors" at all, it never had one to begin with! ;)

Different strokes for different folks. Some prefer this form factor, others prefer the full touch screen look, yet others prefer sliders while some still like flip phones. Different does mean not bad.

I wish Apple would listen to you. There is a certain gap in the shrinking desktop segment line up.

Fixed that for you. Desktops are going away. Apple is not going to cater to a niche within a niche that is the people that want expensive desktops that are fully customizable yet don't use high-end workstation hardware like the Mac Pro does.
